BLACKPINK is actively utilizing symbols of Korean traditional culture to share its beauty with the world.

BLACKPINK's Jennie garnered attention for incorporating Korean traditional culture into her style at the renowned event '2023 Met Gala.'

BLACKPINK is a top global girl group, and their clothing and accessories always draw attention. The Met Gala, in particular, is an event where celebrities showcase bold and extravagant outfits. Jennie's ensemble was of great interest to her global fans.

At the event, Jennie managed to keep her title as "Human Chanel" while incorporating elements of Korean traditional culture. The most notable part of her style was her braided hair, which she accessorized with Chanel's signature white camellia, capturing both classic beauty and elegance.

The braided hairstyle was Jennie's idea. In a Met Gala preparation video released by Vogue, Jennie introduced her hairstyle as "inspired by Korean culture" and "Korean tradition."

Before Jennie, Rosé caused a stir by wearing Korean hairpins. In March, at a Sulwhasoo event in New York, Rosé wore the hairpins with a black dress. The beautiful and delicate accessories sparked great interest from international fans.

BLACKPINK has been promoting Korean culture through their props and outfits.

In the music video for "DDU-DU DDU-DU," they used a tiled-roof set, and in "How You Like That," they wore modern hanbok with traditional patterns. In "Pink Venom," they utilized a geomungo, a traditional Korean stringed instrument.

At Coachella, they showcased the unique beauty of Korea with a hanok stage designed in consultation with Korean architectural experts and historically verified. Their "Typa Girl" performance, which incorporated a fan dance, also left a strong impression.

Their outfits were inspired by hanbok as well. The designs drew inspiration from the cheollik, a type of clothing worn by officials during the Joseon Dynasty. The outfit creators, OUR, explained that they also drew motifs from the ten traditional symbols of longevity and nature. The outfits featured hand-painted dancheong patterns and peonies, as well as traditional jewel and mother-of-pearl brooches.

CNN stated, "BLACKPINK members Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa, and Rosé wore hanbok, the traditional Korean attire, and paid tribute to Korean heritage in front of an audience of over 125,000," adding that it would "go down in history."

Despite their efforts, some have criticized BLACKPINK. People from Japan and China accuse BLACKPINK of copying their culture in their hanbok and props. Occasionally, comments on BLACKPINK's YouTube channel raise controversies about the reinterpreted hanbok being tainted by foreign colors or using Chinese culture.

However, BLACKPINK remains undeterred, continuing to showcase the beautiful and proud Korean culture to the world.
