BLACKPINK's Lisa Under Fire For Cultural Appropriation Allegations, Lilifilm Videographer Defends Her
BLACKPINK was swamped with allegations of racial exploitation after their return with "How You Like That."
As supporters expressed their grave concerns about using an Indian God for their MV, the videographer for Lisa's Lilifilm dance videos, Anthony King, had come for her to defend her from another recent allegation.
In Lisa's recent Lilifilm dance video to Chris Brown and Young Thug's "City Girls," she mesmerized the people once again with her amazing dancing. However, some individuals noticed something else in the video. Concerning what was wrapped on Lisa's head, they claimed she was wearing a du-rag, and hence appropriating Black culture, Koreaboo reported.
When the breeze of allegations reached Anthony King, he had to clarify a few things, as he disrupted and explained how baseless they were.
Through Anthony's Instagram story, he first denoted that Lisa was not wearing a du-rag at all. According to him, a du-rag is typically long in length and silky, with strings attached to tighten it, and it couldn't be confused for a scarf.
"FYI, Lisa wears a scarf or a handkerchief, not a du-rag. I believe those who conclude otherwise have never have seen a du-rag before. I did grow up wearing one of them, so trust me. Lol" -Anthony King
To further defend it from cultural appropriation, Anthony King shared that he would not have authorized the filming to proceed, and he would have told Lisa about it.
"One last comment. As a Black guy, I would have said anything if I saw her wearing a du-rag on set, yes."
He even gave a viewpoint on the purpose of a du-rag, explaining that it wasn't just an accessory and pointing out how those making complaints hadn't known its origin—let alone how it resembled.
As a famous idol, it is natural that some people will try to bash and smash Lisa's image from time to time. However, this time around, Anthony King gets to shut them down with knowledge.
