Sunmi Is Hopelessly In Love In Her New MV For 'Pporappippam'
Sunmi just dropped her latest music video for her summer track, and it is lit!
On June 29, Sunmi released her new single track 'Pporappippam,' which means "purple-hue night" in Korean.
On the same day of the release, Sunmi attended a press conference for her new song at Yes Live Hall in eastern Seoul, where she talked about the meaning of the song and the process of producing it.
"For me, this is the first true love song. From 'Lalalay,' 'Noir' to 'Siren,' my music mostly carried cynicism or ridicule of love," Sunmi commented.
Sunmi shared she partnered with her long-time collaborator 'Frants,' co-writing the retro-style city pop number with the producer. And as usual, Sunmi was designated to write the lyrics.
The singer also added that she had something else in mind when initially working on the album. But amid weighty recent real-world incidents, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, Sunmi said she wanted to deliver a sense of relief and escapism to her fans, Yonhap News reported.
"My songs considerably had a weighty sensation in the past. I wanted to deliver a sense of emotional comfort to my fans, and 'Pporappippam' is such a heart-pounding song."
"That feeling during early summer, of the breeze that dries away the sweat near dusk—that sense of excitement when you're watching the sky while sitting at an outside terrace cafe. I wanted to create that sonically," Sunmi said.
Her latest music video for her unapologetic summer party song is saturated in a purple hue, which is not only aesthetically pleasing, but it matches well with the meaning of the song.
Meanwhile, Sunmi and the rest of Wonder Girls just had a mini-reunion on the last episode for the first season of MBC's "Don't Be Jealous," aired on June 29.
The members expressed their happiness in seeing one another and shared a toast over low-alcohol champagne to celebrate Hyerim's marriage.
The Wonder Girls members met up for the first time in about three years for Hyerim's bridal shower. Yeeun and Sunye were not able to join physically, but they did video calls to send their wishes.
Sunmi filled in her fellow members with her schedule and activities, where she told them of her comeback with the track 'Pporappippam.'
