Controversial Hwang Young-woong Stirs Comeback Rumors Amid Ongoing Silence
"Troubled" singer Hwang Young-woong, who voluntarily withdrew from MBN's entertainment program 'Burning Trotman' due to various controversies, appears to be subtly paving the way for a potential return.
On May 15th, his agency, The Uri Entertainment (hereafter Uri Entertainment), hinted at Hwang's return, stating, "We are currently doing our best for Hwang Young-woong, and we will continue to do so for the fans who are waiting for him."
Recently, Uri Entertainment released an old practice video of Hwang. In relation to this, they thanked the fans for their continued support and urged them to keep cheering for Hwang. They conveyed their infinite gratitude to the fans and the cafe staff for their tireless efforts in supporting Hwang.
Hwang made a name for himself as an audition participant on 'Burning Trotman' and was a strong candidate for the win. However, during the show, allegations related to a 2016 assault and injury criminal record, past school violence, and date violence surfaced. In response to this, Hwang chose to apologize and voluntarily withdraw from 'Burning Trotman' after the first final round.
After a period of reflection, Hwang announced in March that he had signed an exclusive contract with Uri Entertainment. At the time, the agency apologized for Hwang's inability to take immediate action due to various constraints, such as issues with the broadcast production company contract and agency transfer. The agency also revealed Hwang's intention to apologize directly to those involved if permitted.
They added, "Hwang Young-woong, as mentioned on the show, is distressed and remorseful for his past actions, which he didn't realize would cause such deep and lasting hurt to others and have such a significant societal impact. He regrets his ignorance."
The agency initially stated that there were "no plans for any activities." However, a day after the agency's statement was published, Hwang hinted at his future activities, saying, "As you saw in the article today, I have a new fence now, so please trust my agency and me with the difficult issues and focus on your happiness."
With a short reflection period of about three months, Hwang Young-woong has signaled a possible return through his agency's statement. It remains to be seen if Hwang can make a comeback without any further controversies.
