BabyMonster Challenges BLACKPINK's Reign with Pre-Debut Song 'DREAM'
Rookie girl group BabyMonster is singing their own 'DREAM'.
YG Entertainment unveiled the pre-debut song 'DREAM' on BabyMonster's official YouTube channel on May 14. The video encapsulates the passion and sincerity of the seven girls who have been breathlessly running towards their goal of debuting.
According to YG Entertainment, the video for this pre-debut song 'DREAM' showcases BabyMonster's unique emotional harmony, ranging from warm, low tones to thrilling high notes. The solo parts highlighting each member's charm, harmonious vocals in the latter part, and the solid rapping of the rap line herald the birth of a 'monstrous rookie'.
The lyrics reveal the girls' bold ambition and firm resolve as they face their debut. Instead of crumbling or running away when tough times come, they convey a hopeful message of flapping their wings even stronger. With their genuine vocal tones, the members complete the song, signaling a dazzling take-off in the future.
Moreover, scenes from the 'Last Evaluation' are woven together to maximize the emotional impact of the song. The process of overcoming the hurdle of the final debut, comforting each other amid tears due to the challenging practices, unfolds. The warm embrace after the final stage leaves a deep impression.
BabyMonster is the girl group that YG Entertainment is launching almost seven years after BLACKPINK. The group consists of members from Korea (Ah-Hyun, Ha-Ram, RoRa), Thailand (Pharita, Chiquita), and Japan (Luca, Asa), earning the self-evaluation of 'all-rounder' as they are well-versed in vocals, dance, rap, and visuals.
Even before their debut, as trainees, they broke the record for the shortest time for a K-pop girl group to reach 2 million subscribers on YouTube in just 129 days. They have also surpassed 400 million accumulated views on their teaser content, hinting at an early popularity storm. American Billboard selected them as 'K-Pop Artists to Watch', predicting that they "will create a new wave in the K-pop genre".
