Veteran Actor Choi Jung-hoon Passes Away at 83
Veteran actor Choi Jung-hoon has passed away at the age of 83.
On May 11, it was belatedly reported that Choi Jung-hoon had passed away from pneumonia at noon on May 10.
Born in 1940 in Anju, Pyeongan-namdo, Choi Jung-hoon made his acting debut in 1961 as a first-generation KBS public recruitment talent. He then gained immense popularity by playing independence activist Kim Sung-jun in the 1972 KBS drama 'Yeo Ro.' He became a representative actor in the 1970s and 1980s, and in 1975, he won the Best Actor award at the KBS Acting Awards.
Choi Jung-hoon received high praise for his superb acting in epic dramas such as 'Dae Myung,' 'Gae Guk,' 'Sae Byuk,' and 'Toji,' all of which were well-loved. Additionally, he garnered attention for his portrayal of President Lee Seung-man in works like 'O Seong Janggun Kim Hong-il' and 'Myeongdong Baekjak.'
Choi Jung-hoon was also the younger brother of the late director Choi Hoon, who passed away in 2005. They worked together on films such as 'Run Towards Tomorrow' and 'Danjjak,' with the brothers taking on the roles of director and lead actor, respectively.
In the 2000s, Choi Jung-hoon collaborated with writer Kim Soo-hyun. He played the role of Hong Jun-pyo's father, portrayed by actor Kim Sang-jung, in 'My Man's Woman.' He also showcased his impressive acting skills in 'Life is Beautiful.' His last official work was the 2011 drama 'Scent of a Woman.'
The funeral hall is set up in VIP Room 1 at the Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital in Dongan-gu, Anyang-si, Gyeonggi-do. The funeral procession will take place at 9 a.m. on May 12, and the burial will be at Eden Paradise in Icheon.
