BLACKPINK Showcases Korean Traditions at Coachella, Captivating Audiences
As BLACKPINK becomes the first Asian artist to headline the Coachella Festival, their performance showcasing traditional Korean beauty is garnering significant attention.
On April 15 (local time), BLACKPINK attended the "Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival" held in Indio, California, as the headliner for the second day. The group wowed the audience with powerful choreography and live performances of songs like "Pink Venom," "Kill This Love," "How You Like That," "Pretty Savage," "Kick It," and "Whistle."
Before the second half of their performance, each member presented a solo song. Jennie performed an unreleased track "You & Me," Jisoo sang her recently released "Flower," Rosé presented "On The Ground," and Lisa showcased "MONEY."
In the second half, BLACKPINK changed outfits and performed "BOOMBAYAH," "Lovesick Girls," "Playing with Fire," "Typa Girl," and "Shut Down," before concluding their stage with "Tally," "DDU-DU DDU-DU," and "Forever Young."
Captivating around 120,000 attendees with numerous songs, BLACKPINK made an effort to emphasize their Korean roots. The main set of their first stage was designed with a motif inspired by the traditional Korean house dancheong.
Particularly during Jisoo's solo performance of "Flower," the stage's LED visuals displayed mother-of-pearl patterns, reinforcing BLACKPINK's status as a representative K-pop group.
Moreover, Jennie's outfit in the first half featured jewelry that resembled mother-of-pearl, and the stage production of "Typa Girl" included a dance reminiscent of traditional Korean fan dance.
Remarkably, someone in the audience waved a Taegeukgi (South Korean flag), and the fluttering flag behind BLACKPINK caught everyone's attention. After finishing all their performances, the members thanked the audience in Korean, receiving cheers and applause.
BLACKPINK's performance at Coachella, one of the largest music festivals in the United States, was perfect in itself, blending Korean language, tradition, and the Taegeukgi.
