READ: These K-pop Idols Got Lambasted After Making Inappropriate Jokes
It is tough to living life every day as a K-pop star. If an average internet user can use the card named "freedom of speech" anytime, they can claim something derogatory or against someone else, an idol can not.
Netizens are watching every term and move; it is the reason they must serve as role models and filter their opinions and sentences before they convey themselves.
Since K-pop celebrities are considered "perfect" and "best" individuals, these K-pop idols end up making offensive remarks and puns, wound up being revoked by netizens and some supporters. (via Kpopstarz)
LOVELYZ MIJOO
On an episode of MIJOOPIKCHU, the girl artist program, Mijoo headed to Seoul forest and had a chat with a university student participant. When the idol finds out he's pursuing someone, Mijoo jokingly questioned how far they'd gone after dating and said they'd already done 'it.' The male participant then continues to deny it and shares that they only kissed despite dating for already 200 days.
Mijoo mocked him further, nevertheless, and said, "Are you not a man?" and looked at him downward. The production team aggravated it by inserting the caption, "What are you looking at? Mijoo stares at ..."
The idol and the production team faced tremendous criticism. This happened months ago, but it made headlines again in September. Mijoo has already publicly shared her apology letter.
JAEJOONG
In April, Jaejoong was canceled for making a massive offensive joke by people on social media and even though his fans. Jaejoong surprised the entertainment industry on April Fools' Day when he revealed that he is positive with COVID-19. Several people started praying and wished for his speedy recovery.
However, the male model admitted just a few hours later that it was only a joke and appealed to anyone concerned. But acknowledging his apologies for many patients killed because of the virus was not easy, and it was disrespectful to troll people with the silent yet lethal enemy involved.
RED VELVET'S WENDY
Wendy did not joke but instead impersonated black and white women on a broadcast, causing her to face a massive outrage. Netizens and the Black community have been profoundly insulted by her imitation, where she is doing the neck rolling and waving/snapping a finger.
She was called out for being "racist" and "ignorant." Some have also said that despite having grown up in America, Wendy is disrespectful.
