Red Velvet's Joy Faces Backlash After Showing-Off Feminist Apparel
23-year-old Park Soo-Young, best known as Red Velvet’s Joy, is being lambasted by South Korean men and K-netizens after uploading a photo that is allegedly an act of feminism.
On August 19 (Wednesday), the card-carrying member of Red Velvet shared a photo slideshow on her personal Instagram account that shows off her white shirt that is paired with a striped suit. In a report by Kpopstarz, referencing to Wikitree’s article, the photos were taken during the event Joy and fellow band member Seulgi attended. The event is facilitated by ‘Blue Sky for All’ as the two K-pop idols were chosen to be the new ambassadress, with a goal to maintain a clean and fresh air in Korea.
With Joy’s post, her 8.5 million followers, especially the men, couldn’t help but notice the singer’s shirt, leading for a social media commotion.
The short donned by Joy has a writing that reads, “We should all be feminists,” a shirt made by Dior luxury brands that sells for $860. K-netizens started to call out Joy’s attention to the matter calling her a “sellfish” person, as the issue can greatly affect other members of the band. The fans became worried about their idols when the talk started to headline various news site in the internet, considering Red Velvet just started the promotion schedule for their upcoming album. The issue follows after member Wendy re-joined the band from her eight months long hiatus caused by a stage accident.
However, there also some who defended Joy against the backlashers, saying, "What's wrong with the T-Shirt? She probably wore it because it is sponsored." But, as per Allkpop, the post has a great possibility that it is not sponsored as the brand was not tagged by Joy in the caption nor in the photo. The K-pop idol used to tag Dior on her previous posts to let her fans know it is a paid sponsorship.
