NewJeans’ 'Ditto' Surpasses Half a Billion Streams on Spotify, Marks Second Major Milestone
NewJeans (Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, Hyein) has achieved another streaming milestone with their hit track 'Ditto' surpassing 500 million streams on Spotify.
According to Spotify, the world's largest music streaming platform, the single 'OMG' by NewJeans, including the track 'Ditto', reached 500 million 42 thousand 244 plays as of December 2. This makes 'Ditto' the second track by NewJeans to reach half a billion streams, following their album title track 'OMG'.
'Ditto' was prepared by NewJeans as a special winter gift for their fans, known as Bunnies, featuring a cozy melody and the warm vocals of NewJeans. The song, pre-released on December 19 last year ahead of the album 'OMG', made a remarkable achievement by topping Melon, a major Korean music chart, for 99 consecutive days and 14 consecutive weeks, and continues to receive immense love, maintaining its position in the upper ranks of various music charts.
'Ditto' also created a sensation abroad. It brought the honor of entering the Billboard Hot 100, a main song chart in the United States, to NewJeans just six months after their debut. Maintaining its position for 49 consecutive weeks on the Billboard 'Global Excl. US' latest chart (as of December 2), 'Ditto' has also climbed to the 24th and 52nd spots respectively in the Billboard 2023 year-end 'Global Excl. US' and 'Global 200' charts.
NewJeans received the 'Song of the Year' award, equivalent to a grand prize, for 'Ditto' at both the '2023 MAMA Awards' on November 29 and the 'Melon Music Awards 2023 (MMA2023)' on December 2.
At Japan's most prestigious music awards, the 'Japan Record Awards', 'Ditto' has been selected for the 'Outstanding Work Award', marking the first time a foreign song has been nominated in this category. The grand prize winner will be announced on the 30th.
