British actor Julian Sands, who went missing while hiking in the mountainous region of the western United States, has been confirmed deceased at the age of 65.

On the 27th (local time), the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department in California announced that the remains found three days prior on Mt. Baldy in the San Gabriel mountain range were identified as Julian Sands. The Sheriff's Department had previously announced Sands went missing on January 19th on the Mt. Baldy trail course, located about 50 miles northeast of Los Angeles.

Sands left for a hike on January 13th and when he didn't return for over a week, his family reported him missing. Subsequently, authorities carried out search operations involving helicopters and drones on eight separate occasions. However, they were unable to find him due to adverse weather conditions and avalanches making the search difficult.

On the 24th, a hiker discovered remains presumed to be Sands, and the authorities were notified, enabling recovery efforts.

Days before his remains were discovered, the family expressed their gratitude to the search team members through a statement. "We are deeply grateful to the search teams and coordinators who tirelessly worked to find Julian," the family said. "We cherish the shining memories of Julian as a wonderful father, husband, explorer, lover of nature and art, and as an original and collaborative actor."

Born and raised in England, Sands pursued acting and appeared in over 150 British and American films and TV dramas over the span of 40 years. After gaining fame through the British romance film 'A Room with a View' directed by James Ivory in 1985, he migrated to the United States and mainly worked in Hollywood. His notable works include 'Warlock' (1989), 'When a Man Loves a Woman' (1993). Even after entering the 2000s, he actively appeared in works such as 'The Million Dollar Hotel' (2002), 'Blood and Bone' (2009), 'The Hunter' (2010), and 'The Crooked House' (2019).

Sands was known to enjoy hiking, once saying that he felt happiest when he was near the summit of a dazzlingly cold mountain in the morning.
