Monsta X's I.M on Moving from Starship to Sony Music: 'I Needed Time for Metamorphosis'
Monsta X's I.M has shared his feelings on leaving Starship Entertainment and starting anew with Sony Music.
I.M held a press conference on the morning of the 23rd at CGV Cheongdam Cine City in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, in celebration of the release of his new EP 'OVERDRIVE.'
'OVERDRIVE' is filled with the will to fearlessly sprint towards the goals he sets for himself in any situation, along with a fresh takeoff. As it is I.M's first album since leaving Starship Entertainment, where he had been active as part of Monsta X, and establishing a new nest in Sony Music, there is much anticipation.
"After releasing 'DUALITY,' I was able to release a new album after two years. During that time, we produced many Monsta X albums, and because of COVID-19, I had personal time. I was able to study and explore myself more musically while working on my personal music," said I.M.
He continued, "I wanted to take a bold challenge musically. I have such ambitions together with Sony Music, which is a fresh start. Being in a new environment itself seems to be a challenge for me."
When asked about the specific changes brought by the new environment, I.M responded, "I thought that if things were too refined, I would become complacent. I felt it had to be now, even if it meant starting from scratch. I wanted to change and grow myself by embracing new things."
He added, "I thought I needed a time for metamorphosis. In that sense, not only did I want a new environment, but musically, I wanted to pursue new elements, and I tried a variety of genres."
'OVERDRIVE' will be released at 1 PM on June 23 (KST).
