Former KARA Member Heo Youngji Set to Make Solo Debut This Summer, Nine Years Post Group Debut
Heo Youngji, a member of the group KARA, is all set to make her official debut as a solo artist.
Her agency, DSP Media, confirmed on June 4, "Heo Youngji is preparing her solo debut album with a summer release in mind."
The agency added, "Specific schedules will be announced in due course."
After being a trainee at DSP Media, Youngji joined KARA as a new member in 2014. Besides her activities with KARA, she has also built up her skills as an actress.
This solo album release comes nine years after her debut. Previously, Heo Youngji released her first solo digital single 'Memory Clock' in August 2017.
In December 2017, she contributed vocals to the digital single 'Longing', which was released as part of a social contribution project related to abandoned dogs, titled 'I Will Be With You'.
Meanwhile, on November 29th last year, Youngji, along with the KARA members, released a special album 'MOVE AGAIN' to mark their 15th debut anniversary. The album included the return of Kang Jiyoung and Nicole, who had temporarily stepped away, and their collective efforts were a testament to their evolved vocals and performance abilities.
The title track of the album, 'WHEN I MOVE', topped major domestic music charts on the day of its release. Not only the title song, but all the songs included in the album entered the charts, demonstrating the continued interest in KARA's activities. The Japanese version music video even topped the Line Music Video Top 100 chart in Japan.
Reflecting on the past year, KARA shared with Newsen in December, "We believe that 2022 was an unforgettable year for our members. We'll cherish the precious memories from 2022 forever, as they were as special as those from our debut year." They added, "We will strive to meet more frequently through our activities as KARA and our individual efforts."
