Actor Song Joong-ki flashed a charming smile at the photocall event at his first-ever attendance at the Cannes International Film Festival.

On May 25th, local time, Song Joong-ki attended the official photocall for the film 'Hwaran' at the 76th Cannes International Film Festival at Palais des Festivals, Cannes, France.

Song Joong-ki caught everyone's attention with his dandy look, dressed in a clean fashion matching a black inner jacket with white pants. In particular, the wedding ring on his left ring finger shone brightly, drawing the eyes of all in attendance.

Song Joong-ki lit up the 'Hwaran' red carpet event held the previous day with a stunning black tuxedo. As he made his appearance, fans cheered calling out his name. Responding to the enthusiastic fans, Song Joong-ki greeted them with a warm wave.

 

'Hwaran' is a noir drama that tells the story of a boy named Yeongyu (played by Hong Sa-bin), who wants to escape a hellish reality, and meets Chi-geon (played by Song Joong-ki), a middle boss in a criminal organization, stepping into a precarious world. 'Hwaran' quickly garnered attention, being pre-sold in various countries around the world including Europe immediately after being revealed at the Cannes market. The film had its world premiere at 11 am on May 24th (local time) at the Salle Debussy theater.

Before the screening, Song Joong-ki, along with Director Kim and actors Kim Hyung-seo and Hong Sa-bin, took to the stage to greet the audience. Song Joong-ki was initially planning to attend the premiere with his wife, Katie Louise Saunders, who is also an actress. Katie, who is nine months pregnant, had traveled to Cannes to support her husband. However, Song decided against taking her to the screening considering the violent scenes in the movie might not be suitable for his heavily pregnant wife.

As the movie ended, even before the end credits rolled, cheers and applause erupted from the audience, proving the warm response towards 'Hwaran'. With the lights on and the end credits still rolling, the ceaseless standing ovation led to a touching moment as Hong Sa-bin, Song Joong-ki, Kim Hyung-seo, Jung Jae-kwang, and Director Kim Chang-hoon shared hugs on stage. After the premiere, Song Joong-ki said, "I felt deeper emotions after watching the movie than when I first read the script. Especially during the reservoir scene, when Yeongyu looks at Chi-geon's ears from behind, I felt confirmed that my initial feelings were right and felt grateful for taking on this film. I want to express my thanks to all the staff and actors, and hope that 'Hwaran' will receive a lot of love."
