Singer IU has been accused of plagiarizing music for six of her songs, prompting her agency to take a strong legal stance against the spread of false information.

On May 10, a media outlet reported that a civilian accused IU of plagiarizing music from foreign and domestic artists in six songs, filing a copyright infringement complaint against her at the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul on the 8th.

The songs involved in the accusation are 'Shoes of Glass', 'Good Day', 'Bbibbi', 'Marshmallow', 'Boo', and 'Celebrity'. IU participated in composing and writing lyrics for 'Celebrity' and writing lyrics for 'Bbibbi'.

In response, IU's agency EDAM Entertainment released a statement, saying, "We have been aware of the fact that some people have been distributing handouts containing plagiarism rumors and groundless rumors based on false information about IU on online communities, SNS, and YouTube for several months."

The agency added, "Since the suspicion was raised, we have submitted a complaint to the investigative agency through law firm Shinwon, based on evidence collected on plagiarism suspicions, spy rumors, sexual harassment and defamation, dissemination of false information, and invasion of privacy."

Regarding the complaint, the agency said, "We have not officially received any contact from the investigative agency, and we learned about the complaint for the first time through a news article today. We have not yet confirmed the contents of the complaint mentioned in the media and are trying to figure out the details."

Furthermore, the agency warned that they will take a strong stance against those who spread false information, separate from the plagiarism accusations. The agency emphasized that they will "take strong legal action without leniency against those who repeatedly post malicious comments, commit character assassination and defamation, or reproduce false information."

Finally, the agency said, "We have been collecting malicious comments and taking legal action against them on a regular basis. We cannot disclose specific processes and progress at the request of the investigative agency, but we are currently collecting a large number of additional materials, and we are more aware of the seriousness than ever."

"We will do our best to track down those who post malicious comments and protect the rights of our artists. We will take a stronger stance without any leniency or agreement in this process. We also want to reiterate that we will not stop taking strong action against indiscriminate third-party complaints and crimes based on false information," the agency concluded.

Previously, IU faced plagiarism accusations for her song 'Shoes of Glass' in 2013. At the time, her agency drew a firm line against the plagiarism controversy, stating that while some melodies in 'Shoes of Glass' may sound similar to parts of 'Here's Us,' the chord progressions of the two songs are entirely different.
