In a recent interview, K-pop girl group SKYGIRLS disclosed the traumatic experiences they endured under their agency, including being forced to undergo plastic surgery and adhere to dangerous diets to maintain their figures.

SKYGIRLS, a quartet comprised of Japanese members, debuted in South Korea as a K-pop group in 2019 under SKY Entertainment and ONETOP Entertainment. They were created by singer-composer Yang Sungjeung and debuted with the digital single "Because of You." However, the group unofficially disbanded in 2020 or 2021 due to fierce competition among K-pop girl groups.

On April 12, members Karina and Runa spoke out about the harrowing experiences they faced as K-pop idols during a Japanese broadcast. They reported that the agency constantly invaded their privacy, requiring them to provide minute-by-minute updates of their personal movements via messenger.

The agency also imposed harsh weight-loss demands, threatening to cancel the group's schedules if members didn't follow an extremely dangerous diet formula. "Girl groups need to subtract 120 from their height to achieve a 'normal' weight. If you are 165cm tall, you should weigh 45kg," the members explained.

Due to the severe diet, members experienced dizziness and daily nosebleeds, but the agency offered no respite. The agency also sexually harassed the group members by touching them to "check" their bodies.

Furthermore, SKYGIRLS was forced to undergo plastic surgery at their own expense. The members, unfamiliar with Korea's standard contract system, signed a 10-year contract with the Korean agency, violating the principle of a maximum of seven years.

After enduring these experiences, the members returned to Japan. In response, the agency filed a compensation suit with the Tokyo District Court, demanding approximately 146 million won (about 111k USD) for contract violations. However, last month, the court rejected all claims and acknowledged the members' termination of the contract.

Though now working for a Japanese company, the members expressed heartbreak and a lack of confidence in pursuing a career as idols again.
