BLACKPINK Bags First Daesang Award At 2022 Seoul Success Awards
Mega K-pop group BLACKPINK has just taken home their first Daesang award at the 2022 Seoul Success Awards. The four-member band bagged the trophy in the singer category.
The Seoul Success award ceremony this year was held recently at the Grand Ballroom in Seoul's Grand Hyatt Hotel. It is a prestigious South Korean music award hosted by Sports Seoul, a publication.
BLACKPINK has not won a since Daesang since debuting in 2016. The fact has caused quite a lot of debates and talks among both fans and the general public.
Incidentally, The Daesang award, which literally means the "Grand Prize" is one of the highest, biggest achievements an artist or group can get. The Daesang award focuses on the records released by artists that year and the number of copies that they sold, both physically and digitally.
Meanwhile, the BLACKPINK members Jisoo, Jennie, Lisa, and Rosé could not attend the award ceremony or collect their winning trophies personally as they are currently on their "Born Pink" world tour, named after their second album. A representative collected the award on the K-pop band's behalf.
In other news, the band's "Born Pink" album has become the longest-charting 2022 album by a K-Pop girl band on "Billboard 200". According to Billboard's latest released chart updates, BLACKPINK's second full-length album is at #160 on this week's US main album chart rankings for Billboard 200, spending nine consecutive weeks on the chart.
As a consequence, the band has broken the record for an album released by a K-Pop female artist this year with the most weeks spent charting inside the Billboard 200. Previously, TWICE held the record for "Between 1&2", which had a total of eight weeks spent in the chart.
Moreover, "Born Pink" has become the 2nd longest running album by a South Korean Pop female act in the history of Billboard history, just behind their own first album, "THE ALBUM".
In addition, "Shut Down", the album's title song is at #29 on the Billboard Global Excl. US chart this week and at #59 on the Billboard Global 200. The pre-release track "Pink Venom" is presently at #79 on this week's Billboard Global 200.
Recently, three members of BLACKPINK also took home three of the top 10 rankings of the recently voted "TOP FACE OF THE YEARS: HANDSOME AND BEAUTIFUL 2022" survey. Lisa was ranked at #2, while Jennie and Jisoo bagged the fourth and fifth spots respectively.
