Summer Queens Clash: Nayeon, Sunmi, Kwon Eun-bi Set for June Comebacks
Female solo artists are gearing up for a heated competition this summer as they vie for the title of 'Summer Queen.' TWICE's Nayeon, along with solo artists Sunmi and Kwon Eun-bi, are all set to release new music in June, promising an exciting season for K-pop fans.
First to confirm her comeback is Nayeon. The TWICE member will drop her second mini-album, 'NA,' on June 14 at 1 PM KST (midnight EST). JYP Entertainment announced Nayeon's return on May 13 through a surprise logo motion teaser on their official social media channels.
This new album marks Nayeon's solo return after nearly two years since the release of her first mini-album, 'IM NAYEON,' in June 2022. 'IM NAYEON' achieved significant success, debuting at number seven on the Billboard 200 chart. The upcoming album 'NA,' which means "me" in Korean, aims to showcase Nayeon's charming and confident persona, building on the self-assured vibe of her previous work.
The release schedule for 'NA' has been unveiled, starting with the tracklist reveal on May 16, followed by an album trailer on May 18, concept photos from May 20 to 30, an album sneak peek on June 7, and music video teasers for the title track on June 10 and 12.
Sunmi is also preparing for a summer comeback with her new song 'Balloon in Love,' set to release in June. This will be her first new music since the digital single 'STRANGER' in October last year. On May 13, Sunmi shared a 3D motion teaser video for the title logo on her official social media channels, revealing the song's name. The teaser featured pink balloons rising against a backdrop of lush greenery and a dusky sky, creating a buzz among fans.
The teaser video also included a snippet of the song, hinting at a bright and warm vibe, a departure from her previous works. Sunmi, known for her distinct concepts and catchy melodies, has earned titles like 'Concept Queen' and 'Sunmi Pop' with hits like 'Gashina,' 'Heroine,' 'Noir,' 'Lalalay,' and 'pporappippam.'
Kwon Eun-bi, often dubbed the 'Waterbomb Goddess,' is also slated for a mid-June comeback. She is currently finalizing the tracklist for her new album, aiming to deliver refreshing performances that complement the summer vibe. This new release follows her special single 'Like Heaven' from October last year and her first single 'The Flash' from August, which received much love from music fans.
Kwon Eun-bi's comeback will coincide with her participation in 'WATERBOMB SEOUL 2024,' scheduled for July. She is set to perform on the second day, July 6, alongside artists like Jay Park, Changmo, Sunmi, Lee Young-ji, and Kiss of Life. 'WATERBOMB' is Korea's largest summer music festival, combining water play and performances. Kwon Eun-bi gained significant attention at last year's 'WATERBOMB' for her impressive performance and stunning physique, earning her the title of a rising 'Summer Queen.' Her popularity from the event helped her January 2022 release 'Underwater' climb back up the music charts, captivating listeners anew.
With all three artists set to release new music and perform, the competition for the 'Summer Queen' title is heating up, promising a season filled with exciting comebacks and unforgettable performances.
