BTS Jungkook's 'GOLDEN' Hits Over 500 Million Streams in the US: Setting New Records for Asian and K-Pop Solo Artists
BTS Jungkook's solo album 'GOLDEN' has made history in the United States by surpassing 500 million streams, marking a new milestone. According to 'chart data', a platform that provides real-time updates on music charts worldwide, 'GOLDEN' achieved this feat on January 25th (KST), setting new records as the fastest Asian artist album and the first K-Pop solo artist album to reach over 500 million on-demand streams in the US.
On-demand streaming, where users actively search for and choose to play music on streaming platforms, signifies a high level of listener engagement and preference. 'GOLDEN's achievement in the US, the world's largest music market, within approximately two and a half months of its release, underscores its significant impact and popularity.
Previously, 'GOLDEN' broke records on Spotify, the largest music streaming platform globally, by being the first K-Pop solo artist album and the fastest Asian artist album to surpass 2.4 billion streams (before filtering). In December, it also became the first and only Korean solo artist album to hit 1 billion streams on YouTube Music, continuing its unstoppable success.
In the US, 'GOLDEN' became the first K-Pop solo artist album in 2023 to sell over 500,000 units, leading in total sales among K-Pop solo artist albums and ranking first in CD sales among all male solo artists in the US for the year.
The album made its debut at #2 on the Billboard 200, making history as the first and longest-charting Asian solo artist album in the Top 50 for 11 consecutive weeks.
'GOLDEN' has been recognized by major music publications, including Rolling Stone's 'Best Music of 2023: Staff Picks', MTV's 'Record-Breaking Albums of 2023', The New York Times' 'Best Albums of 2023', and UPROXX's 'The Best Albums Of 2023'.
Furthermore, three tracks from 'GOLDEN' ('Seven', '3D', and 'Standing Next to You') each sold over 500,000 units in the US within a year of release, setting another record for a K-Pop artist. 'Seven' notably reached over 1 million US sales in just 71 days, earning a Platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
Jungkook is nominated in multiple categories at the '2024 iHeartRadio Music Awards' and the '2024 People's Choice Awards', setting records for the most nominations for a K-Pop solo artist at each award show.
