BTS Jungkook Reigns Supreme: 'Standing Next to You' Hits No. 1 on Melon for Three Consecutive Weeks
BTS member Jungkook has once again proved his unparalleled popularity by winning his tenth Melon Weekly Popularity Award. His solo album 'GOLDEN,' with its title track 'Standing Next to You,' secured the first place in the Melon Weekly Popularity Award TOP 20 for the fifth week of November.
'Standing Next to You' achieved this with a combined score of 77.3 points, comprising a voting score of 45.6 points and a weekly chart position of 18th place, scoring 31.7 points.
The track started its winning streak by topping the Weekly Popularity Award in the third week of November, maintaining the lead for three consecutive weeks.
In the past, Jungkook had achieved first place in the Weekly Popularity Award TOP 20 with his solo single 'Seven' for four consecutive weeks, with '3D' for two consecutive weeks, and once with his self-composed track 'Still With You.' His three-week consecutive top spot with 'Standing Next to You' marks his tenth award in total.
Jungkook, as the first Korean solo artist, has won significant accolades at major American music awards. In 2023, he bagged the 'Song of Summer' category at the 'MTV Video Music Awards (MTV VMA)' and achieved double honors at the 'MTV Europe Music Awards (MTV EMA)' with 'Best Song' and 'Best K-Pop'. Additionally, he won in the 'Top Global K-Pop Song' category at the 'Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs),' continuing his golden journey as a global pop star.
His debut solo album 'GOLDEN' swiftly became a 'Double Million Seller,' crossing two million sales within just five hours of release. This set a new record for the highest first-week sales (Chodong) by a K-pop solo artist. As of last month, it had sold a total of 2,501,158 copies, making it the first solo album to surpass 2.5 million sales since the Hanteo Chart revised its counting method in 2010.
'Standing Next to You' not only secured the fifth position on the U.S. Billboard's main singles chart 'Hot 100' but also clinched the top spot in both major global charts, 'Global (Excl. U.S.)' and 'Global 200.'
