BTS Jimin's 'Like Crazy' Achieves Platinum Certification by RIAA, Marking a New Milestone
BTS member Jimin has achieved another milestone with the title track 'Like Crazy' from his first solo album 'FACE'. On December 1st (local time), the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) announced that 'Like Crazy' has sold over 1 million units, earning it Platinum certification.
The RIAA awards certifications based on digital single and album sales, categorizing them as Gold (over 500,000 units), Platinum (over 1 million units), Multi-Platinum (over 2 million units), and Diamond (over 10 million units). The unit calculation incorporates album (physical/digital) sales, digital downloads, and weighted audio and video streaming.
'Like Crazy' is a track that combines intense synth and drum sounds, with Jimin's poignant vocals expressing a sense of emptiness, creating a striking contrast in the melody.
Jimin's debut solo album 'FACE' set a 'first-ever' record for a K-Pop solo artist, resonating globally. With 'Like Crazy', he topped the US Billboard Main Song Chart 'Hot 100' (dated April 8) upon release, becoming the first Korean solo artist to achieve a number one on the 'Hot 100'. Additionally, 'FACE' sold over 1 million copies on the first day according to the Hanteo Chart, marking it as the first K-Pop solo artist album to become a 'Million Seller' on its release day.
Last month, 'Like Crazy' ranked third in Spotify's '2023 Wrapped' end-of-year campaign for the 'Global Top K-Pop Songs of the Year' category. As of the latest Billboard chart (dated December 2), 'Like Crazy' continues its success, ranking 59th on 'Global (Excl. US)' and 109th on 'Global 200' for 35 consecutive weeks.
