Red Velvet's Irene Braves Jakarta Performance Despite Health Concerns: 'I Missed the Fans'
Red Velvet's leader, Irene, took to the stage in Jakarta despite facing health challenges.
On the afternoon of September 23rd (KST), Red Velvet performed at the 'SMTOWN LIVE 2023 SMCU PALACE JAKARTA' held in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Prior to the performance, Red Velvet's agency, SM Entertainment, announced through the group's official channel, "Due to Irene's health concerns, she will not be participating in 'SMTOWN LIVE 2023 SMCU PALACE JAKARTA'. We apologize for the sudden news and ask for fans' understanding. This decision was made to ensure Irene's recovery and sufficient rest."
Despite the announcement, Irene joined the performance as scheduled alongside the other Red Velvet members. Fellow member Joy explained, "Although Irene wasn't feeling well, she wanted to see our Jakarta fans and decided to perform with us."
Even on stage, while Irene's fatigue was evident, she never lost her smile for the fans.
'SMTOWN LIVE' has been successfully held in major cities worldwide since 2008, including Seoul, New York, LA, Paris, Dubai, Chile, Tokyo, Beijing, Shanghai, Bangkok, and Singapore. It has garnered attention for milestones such as being the first Korean single-brand performance in Paris, the first Asian artist performance at New York's Madison Square Garden, the first foreign artist performance at Beijing's Olympic Stadium, and the first large-scale K-pop performance in Dubai.
The Jakarta performance featured a lineup led by Red Velvet, including TVXQ, Super Junior, NCT 127, NCT DREAM, WayV, aespa, and RIIZE. The concert was live-streamed on Weverse.
