BTS's Jimin Celebrates Milestones: 'Serendipity' Turns 6 and 'Lie' Marks its 7th Anniversary
Global fans have showered BTS's Jimin with celebrations in honor of the anniversaries of his solo tracks 'Serendipity' and 'Lie'.
Released in 2017, Jimin's 'Serendipity' celebrated its 6th anniversary on September 5th. Fans took to Twitter, pushing the hashtags '#세렌디피티6주년축하해' and '#6YearsWithSerendipity' to the top two trending spots in Korea. The phrase 'JIMIN OUR SERENDIPITY' also trended worldwide.
The following day, marking the 7th anniversary of 'Lie', his debut solo track, the hashtag '#지민아_라이7주년축하해' trended at number one in Korea, with 'LIE BY JIMIN' trending both in Korea and globally. The back-to-back celebrations showcased the unwavering global support from fans.
YouTube Music, revealing their special affection for Jimin and 'Lie', commented on a fan's artwork of Jimin, "Oh my, we hope Jimin sees this amazing fan art." Through their official Twitter account, they further fueled the festive atmosphere by posting, "Let's show Jimin our love for #7YearsWithLie."
Fans from around the world shared performance videos, photos, and congratulatory messages of Jimin. YouTube Music responded with comments like, "Jimin's performances always live in our hearts," "Jimin is always angelic," "Jimin's 'Lie' performance is magical," and "Please let us see all of Jimin's 'Lie' performances."
Both 'Serendipity (Intro Version)' and 'Lie', along with 'Filter', have sold over 500,000 units each in the U.S., earning all of Jimin's solo tracks included in group albums a Gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). This marks a first for any Korean solo artist. These tracks, with their dreamy mystique and grandeur reminiscent of musicals, have transcended K-pop, offering breathtaking vocals and peak artistry in performances. Years after their release, they continue to inspire and move not just fans but many artists, solidifying their place in the "textbook" for idols.
Meanwhile, fans, hoping to relive the legendary stages of gem-like masterpieces such as 'Serendipity' and 'Lie', have added meaning to the anniversaries with donations and celebrations, especially as Jimin, with 'Like Crazy', has been pioneering new horizons in the music industry, being the first Korean solo artist to top the U.S. Billboard 'Hot 100' and enjoying long-term success.
