BTS's Jin's 'The Astronaut' Continues its Global Reign with 16 Weeks on Billboard's World Digital Song Sales Chart
BTS's Jin's 'The Astronaut' has once again showcased its global popularity by marking its 16th week on the U.S. Billboard chart.
Jin's debut solo track 'The Astronaut' re-entered the Billboard 'World Digital Song Sales Chart' at the 14th position on September 6th. Since its release in October of the previous year, 'The Astronaut' has now charted for 16 weeks, setting a record for the longest-charting K-pop solo track in the past decade.
Released on October 28th of the previous year, 'The Astronaut' debuted at number one on the 'World Digital Song Sales Chart' and held the top spot for three consecutive weeks. This achievement marked the longest duration a K-pop solo track has held the number one position in the past decade.
Moreover, out of the 16 weeks it charted, 'The Astronaut' spent 13 weeks within the top 10, solidifying its dominant presence.
In 2022, 'The Astronaut' debuted on the 'Digital Song Sales' chart with an impressive 44,000 sales in its first week, ranking fifth in terms of debut sales for songs released that year. This initial data propelled the track to the 58th position on the U.S. Billboard 2022 year-end 'Digital Song Sales' chart, making it the only K-pop solo song on the list.
Currently, Jin's debut solo single 'The Astronaut' has garnered over 233.13 million streams on the world's largest platform, Spotify, and its official music video has surpassed 90 million views. Additionally, on July 28th, 'The Astronaut' topped the iTunes Top Songs chart in Micronesia, marking its number one position in a total of 105 countries. Notably, in the U.S., the heartland of pop music, it achieved the number one spot on the iTunes Top Songs chart in a record time for a K-pop solo, taking just 1 hour and 23 minutes.
The sales records for 'The Astronaut' continue to be broken worldwide. On September 2nd (Korean time), Jin's 'The Astronaut' claimed the top spot on the U.S. Amazon Music Digital Song Bestseller list. This achievement is particularly impressive given that the song, released on October 28th of the previous year, is still receiving immense love nearly ten months later. Amazon is the world's largest e-commerce platform.
Furthermore, 'The Astronaut' also ranked 10th in Amazon's 'Movers & Shakers' category, which showcases the songs with the most sales over the past 24 hours.
In Amazon's 'CDs & Vinyl' category under the 'Movers & Shakers' section, two versions of Jin's physical album secured the first and second positions. The album also recorded the top spot in the K-pop category.
In Japan's 'Universal Music Store', both the individual and set versions of the album sold out during the first round of pre-orders, leading to a second round. On the global K-pop platform Ktown4u, Jin's album dominated with overwhelming sales, ranking first, and also topped the popular search terms, highlighting Jin's unparalleled influence.
Jin's 'The Astronaut' became the first single album to achieve 'Million Seller' status on 'Circle Chart'. On the Circle Chart's 2022 annual sales, it recorded the second-highest sales volume for a solo artist. On the 'Hanteo Chart', it recorded 770,000 sales, setting a new record for the highest initial sales for a male solo single. In Japan's RIA, 'The Astronaut' also became the first Korean solo track in 2022 to receive a gold certification.
