Stray Kids' '5-STAR' Crowned Best-Selling K-pop Album in the U.S. for 2023
Stray Kids' third studio album has clinched the title of the best-selling K-pop album in the U.S. for 2023.
Released on June 2nd, Stray Kids' third album "5-STAR" has secured the top spot as the highest-selling K-pop album in the U.S. for 2023, as of August 28th.
During the same period, in terms of overall album sales, Stray Kids ranked fourth, following Taylor Swift's "Midnights" and "Speak Now (Taylor's Version)" and Travis Scott's "UTOPIA."
Another Stray Kids' album, "MAXIDENT," also made its mark by ranking in the top 10 best-selling K-pop albums in the U.S. for 2023. As of now, Stray Kids stands second in the ranking of artists with the highest album sales in the U.S. for the year, trailing only behind Taylor Swift, further solidifying their dominant presence in the K-pop scene.
Previously, Stray Kids topped the Billboard main charts "Billboard 200" and "Artist 100" on June 17th with their third album and its title track "특." Following their 2022 mini-albums "ODDINARY" and "MAXIDENT," they achieved a remarkable feat by entering the main Billboard charts three times consecutively and securing the top spot. Recently, they also set a new personal record by staying on the "Billboard 200" chart for 12 consecutive weeks.
As the "K-pop Trendsetters," Stray Kids continues to heat up the U.S. scene in September. They will make their debut appearance at the "2023 MTV Video Music Awards" (MTV VMAs) in New Jersey's Prudential Center on September 12th. Nominated in the "Best K-pop" category for their track "특," Stray Kids will deliver a memorable performance to commemorate their entry into the awards show.
On September 23rd, they will be the sole Asian artist to perform at the "2023 Global Citizen Festival" held in New York's Central Park.
Stray Kids has also been expanding their horizons through collaborations with global artists. Their recent Japanese track "Social Path (feat. LiSA)," a collaboration with renowned Japanese artist LiSA, topped YouTube's music video trending worldwide, iTunes song charts in 25 overseas regions, and Japan's LINE Music Top 100 Daily Chart immediately after its pre-release on August 30th.
Hyunjin garnered attention by featuring alongside popular British singer-songwriter PinkPantheress in the remix version of global artist Troye Sivan's latest single "Rush."
Meanwhile, Stray Kids is currently on their debut dome tour, "Stray Kids 5-STAR Dome Tour 2023." As the first 4th generation K-pop boy group to perform in Japan's four major dome venues and achieve sold-out shows for every date, the tour kicked off in Fukuoka's PayPay Dome on August 16th-17th. After successfully concluding performances in Nagoya's Vantelin Dome on September 2nd-3rd, they will continue their momentum with shows in Osaka's Kyocera Dome on September 9th-10th and Tokyo Dome on October 28th-29th.
