BTS's Jungkook Makes History with 'Seven': First and Longest Asian Artist to Top Two Major Billboard Global Charts for Six Consecutive Weeks
BTS's Jungkook has showcased his prowess as the 'King of Music' by setting a record as the first and longest-running Asian artist to top two major Billboard global charts.
According to the latest charts released by the U.S. music authority Billboard (dated September 2), Jungkook's solo single 'Seven' clinched the top spot on both the 'Global 200' and 'Global Excl. U.S.' charts.
'Seven' has dominated these two charts, which rank songs based on streaming and sales from over 200 countries and regions, for an impressive six consecutive weeks, demonstrating its enduring appeal.
Notably, Jungkook has added significance to his achievement by being the first and longest-running Asian artist to simultaneously top the 'Global 200' and 'Global Excl. U.S.' charts for six weeks. With 'Seven', he has surpassed the four-week #1 record set by BTS's hit 'Dynamite' on the 'Global 200' chart and has achieved the longest six-week #1 run among all Asian artists. This year, he's the second global artist to maintain such a prolonged chart presence, underscoring the ongoing 'Seven Syndrome' fever.
Furthermore, 'Seven' debuted at #1 on Billboard's main singles chart, the 'Hot 100', and has remained within the top 30 for six consecutive weeks, with positions at #9 in its second week, #30 in its third, #28 in its fourth, #30 in its fifth, and #32 in its sixth week.
Previously, 'Seven' set a debut record on the 'Global 200' chart with the highest weekly streams for a solo artist at 217.1 million and the highest weekly sales among global groups and solo artists at 269,000 units.
Additionally, 'Seven' has achieved other monumental records, including being the first male artist in history to surpass 100 million streams for five consecutive weeks on the 'Global 200' chart and the first since the inception of the 'Global Excl. U.S.' chart to surpass 100 million streams for four consecutive weeks.
Beyond Billboard, 'Seven' has also dominated Spotify's 'Daily Top Global Songs' chart, holding the #1 spot for an unprecedented 47 days for an Asian artist, even surpassing the combined duration of all other Asian groups and solo artists. Moreover, on August 30th, Jungkook became the first male artist this year to top the daily chart on Melon, South Korea's leading music platform, further highlighting his impressive achievements both domestically and internationally.
