Stray Kids' Bang Chan's Weekly Livestream Halted by JYP Entertainment, Fans Express Disappointment
In a recent revelation that has left fans heartbroken, Stray Kids' leader, Bang Chan, confirmed the discontinuation of his weekly livestream, "Chan's Room," by JYP Entertainment (JYPE). The announcement came to light during a fan interaction, where Bang Chan candidly shared that the company has prohibited him from continuing the broadcast.
On August 28, during a fanmeeting, a video clip went viral showcasing a fan inquiring about the status of "Chan's Room." To this, Bang Chan responded, "Oh I can't do 'Chan's Room' anymore. I actually want to (do it), but the company says no." This revelation led to an outpouring of emotions from fans on social media platforms, expressing their sadness and disappointment. For many, "Chan's Room" was a source of joy and a unique way to connect with the idol.
"Chan's Room" has been a consistent platform since 2019, where Bang Chan would engage with fans, play songs, converse, and occasionally have guest appearances. Despite Stray Kids' packed schedules, the broadcast was a testament to Bang Chan's commitment to his fans, known as STAYs.
However, the last broadcast took place on May 14, 2023, where Bang Chan discussed his experiences at KBS2's "2023 Music Bank in Paris." During this livestream, he touched upon the topic of basic manners and etiquette, highlighting that some junior idols lacked these during the event. This led to heated debates among fans, with many speculating that the fourth-generation girl group, IVE, was the implied target of Bang Chan's comments. Following the controversy, Bang Chan issued an apology, which further intensified the rift between STAYs and fans of IVE, known as DIVEs.
The abrupt halt of "Chan's Room" and the surrounding controversies have put JYP Entertainment under scrutiny. Fans have been vocal about their dissatisfaction with the company's decision, especially given the emotional significance of the broadcast. Many have taken to social media to voice their concerns and seek clarity on the future of "Chan's Room."
While the exact reasons for the discontinuation remain undisclosed, the incident underscores the challenges idols face in balancing their personal connections with fans and the strategic decisions of entertainment companies. As the story unfolds, fans worldwide are hopeful for a resolution that respects both the artist's wishes and the sentiments of the fanbase.
