G-Dragon Celebrates His 36th Birthday and Big Bang's 17th Anniversary in Style
The globally acclaimed singer G-Dragon (real name: Kwon Ji-yong) marked his 36th birthday, followed by the 17th anniversary of Big Bang's debut. On the 18th, G-Dragon shared a picture on his personal social media of a gift box he received from the luxury brand Chanel, where he has been serving as an ambassador.
Since 2016, G-Dragon has been a muse for Chanel, notably becoming the first male ambassador from Asia for the brand. He continues to make significant impacts in the global luxury market.
Furthermore, he uploaded successive selfies of himself holding a birthday cake above his head, showing a playful expression. Born in 1988, G-Dragon turned 36 this year. Wearing sunflower-shaped sunglasses, he expressed gratitude, saying, "Thank you to everyone who wished me a happy birthday♥."
There is anticipation in the air as G-Dragon is reportedly heavily involved in music production, hinting at a solo comeback this year. Earlier in January, he shared a video update stating, "I plan to be back with various activities. I'm also preparing for an album. I'll bring good news this year."
In May, speculation arose when G-Dragon's name was absent from YG Entertainment's artist lineup for the Q3 2023 report. Rumors about the expiration of his exclusive contract with YG and a potential exit from Big Bang began to circulate. YG addressed the situation, saying, "G-Dragon's contract has expired. We're collaborating on other projects through separate agreements. When he resumes his music activities, we'll discuss a new contract, and YG will fully support him."
The day after G-Dragon's birthday, August 19th, marks Big Bang's debut day. Big Bang had debuted in 2006 during YG Family's 10th-anniversary concert. To celebrate Big Bang's 17th anniversary, G-Dragon shared photos of the group's official light stick and album covers on his SNS, mentioning 'BIGBANG 17TH ANNIVERSARY' and 'VIP' (fandom name), making fans' hearts flutter.
Big Bang member Taeyang also celebrated the 17th anniversary through his agency, The Black Label. Daesung commented, "Today marks Daesung's debut anniversary. Thank you to all the fans who've always been there!"
After allegations related to drug use and subsequent retirement from the entertainment industry, T.O.P (real name: Choi Seung-hyun) is set to appear in the Netflix original series 'Squid Game Season 2'. He's said to play a retired idol character who used to be a singer. After enlisting in the military in 2017, a late revelation in 2016 showed T.O.P's involvement with marijuana, leading to a 10-month sentence with two years probation. In 2019, T.O.P indicated his retirement intentions on his SNS. In May, he mentioned, "I've already left Big Bang. I've been facing a new chapter in my life since last year."
