Chaos in K-Pop: Venue Changes, Delays, and BTS Speculation Surround World Scout Jamboree Concert
Continual disruptions plague the Jamboree K-pop (K-POP) concert, known as the 'World Scout Jamboree Super Live'. The '2023 Saemangeum World Scout Jamboree K-pop Super Live', initially slated for the 6th at the outdoor venue in Buan, Saemangeum, has faced both postponement and cancellation, causing widespread confusion.
The '2023 Saemangeum World Scout Jamboree Organizing Committee' announced on August 5, "Given the ongoing heatwave leading to heatstroke cases and safety concerns, we are considering changes to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for K-pop culture. We will confirm and notify of the updated plans promptly."
A representative of the 'K-pop Super Live' stated on August 6 that "the concert was canceled due to government policy." However, instead of outright cancellation, it was later decided that the concert would be rescheduled for August 11 and held at the Jeonju World Cup Stadium. There were rumors suggesting the 'K-pop Super Live' would replace a special episode of 'Music Bank'.
Addressing these changes, the Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, Park Bo-gyun, and the Governor of Jeonbuk, Kim Gwan-young, confirmed in a press conference on the 6th that the concert would take place at the Jeonju World Cup Stadium. With the rescheduling, there's been speculation about potential lineup changes, including rumors regarding BTS's participation. Minister Park stated in a briefing that "nothing has been finalized yet."
However, the 'K-pop Super Live' faced another twist: a change of venue. It's now set to take place at Seoul's Sangam World Cup Stadium, likely due to complications from Typhoon Gaon, and challenges in coordinating artists' schedules. Because of these continuous changes, some groups that were initially included in the lineup will no longer be participating. Many are currently expressing reservations about last-minute appearance offers due to scheduling conflicts.
In another update on August 7, it was confirmed that the event will be held at the Seoul Sangam World Cup Stadium, not the Jeonju World Cup Stadium. The recurring cancellations, postponements, venue changes, and shifting lineups have caused much confusion. On top of this, there were updates on lineup changes for the 'K-pop Super Live'.
On August 7, Star News reported that the KBS 2TV show 'Music Bank' scheduled for August 14th is canceled, to be replaced by the 'World Scout Jamboree Super Live'. The exact broadcast timing is still under discussion. The concert's title was also changed to 'Jamboree Super Live', dropping the 'K-pop' prefix.
Furthermore, contrary to prior reports, the 'K-pop Super Live' won't replace a 'Music Bank' special episode. A representative from KBS clarified to Star News that "'Music Bank' isn't being substituted; they are unrelated." According to the representative, the 2023 Saemangeum World Scout Jamboree Organizing Committee is overseeing the concert, with KBS only supporting the broadcast.
With the concert now labeled 'Jamboree Super Live', the continuous venue switches and lineup changes have made the situation extremely chaotic, akin to a "mud pit."
On a side note, the previously canceled 'K-pop Super Live' on the 6th was confirmed to feature K-POP stars like IVE, ZEROBASEONE, NMIXX, STAYC, P1Harmony, &TEAM, VERIVERY, Lee Chaeyeon, NATURE, ATBO, and xikers, with popular dancer Aiki also set to perform. Actors Jang Dong-yoon, along with STAYC members Sieun and Seeun, were chosen as the MCs.
