A Sensational Comeback: NewJeans's 2nd Mini Album 'Get Up' Released Today, Pre-orders Top 1.72 Million!
After much anticipation, NewJeans is making their triumphant return. Having stoked the comeback fires with a pre-release single and three music videos, NewJeans (Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, Hyein) is releasing their 2nd mini album 'Get Up' at 1 p.m. (Korean Standard Time) on July 21, one day before their 1st debut anniversary. This follows their debut album 'New Jeans' and single album 'OMG', signalling another masterful work in their discography.
A Six-Track Mini Album Imbued with NewJeans's Signature Flair
'Get Up', their 2nd mini album, consists of six tracks spanning a range of genres such as UK Garage, Jersey Club, Punk, House, R&B, and Euro Pop, all tinged with NewJeans's polished sensibility. The strength of NewJeans's music, comfortably enjoyable and never tiresome no matter how often listened to, is expected to shine in this album as well.
Two of the three title tracks have already been revealed. 'Super Shy', an effervescent and lively pre-release track, and the dreamlike 'Cool With You' which was first introduced with a cinematic music video. The remaining 'ETA' was showcased at a recent fan meeting, but is still shrouded in mystery. However, a teaser for 'ETA' allows fans to feel its fast-paced beat and punk vibes. Along with another pre-release track and prologue song 'New Jeans', the interlude track 'Get Up', and the epilogue song 'ASAP', each song captures unique stories of NewJeans, drawing attention from global music fans.
Noteworthy Performances and Impressive Line-Up of Contributors
In this album, NewJeans has put a special emphasis on performance. They have prepared various performance styles to match the vibes of the six tracks, promising a feast for the eyes. With the pre-released title track 'Super Shy', NewJeans conveyed a lively energy with their dynamic arm and hand movements, showcasing a walking dance style. They showcased a carefree hip-hop style in 'New Jeans' and a contemporary dance incorporating modern dance elements in 'Cool With You'. The title track 'ETA', set to be released today, is anticipated to enhance the appeal of the song with its dynamic performance matching its lively beat.
The album also boasts a splendid line-up of contributors. Led by Min Hee-jin, the ADOR representative and chief producer, they have reunited with 250 and Frank, who previously created mega-hits for NewJeans. Additionally, rapper Beenzino participated in the lyrics writing for the title track 'ETA'. Director Shin Woo-seok of Dol Gwa Yeou, who previously hit big with the music videos for 'Ditto' and 'OMG', took the helm for the 'Cool With You' music video, which features global actors Yang Joowee and Jung Hoyeon, delivering unprecedented synergy.
Pre-order Exceeds 1.72 Million Copies...NewJeans Set to Become 'Double Million Seller' Within One Year of Debut
NewJeans, who has shown dominance in digital music, is now set to firmly establish themselves as physical album powerhouses with this new album. According to their album distributor YG PLUS, as of the day before the release (20th), pre-orders for NewJeans's 2nd mini album 'Get Up' have exceeded 1.72 million copies.
This is more than twice the number compared to their previous work. Their single album 'OMG', released last January, recorded approximately 800,000 pre-orders, which subsequently sold over 1.57 million copies (as of June).
NewJeans is now set to become a 'Million Seller' for the third time following their debut album 'New Jeans' and single album 'OMG'. Considering their rapidly growing global fandom and their elevated status in the mainstream pop market, it is predicted that they might even reach 2 million in album sales.
NewJeans's global popularity surge has already begun. The pre-release track 'Super Shy' not only achieved an 'All Kill' on domestic music charts but also set their personal best records by ranking 59th on the UK Official Singles Chart and 66th on the Billboard Hot 100 in the U.S. Given this momentum, the release of their new album is expected to continue NewJeans's career high.
