Song Ji-hyo's Payment Fiasco Spirals: Current Employees Vent Fury Over Deception
The ongoing payment dispute surrounding actress Song Ji-hyo has taken a new turn. The issue is further amplified as employees who are still working for Uju Rocks also face non-payment of their wages.
Song Ji-hyo is reportedly owed a whopping KRW 900 million by Uju Rocks. It has been revealed that even salaries of her staff, including her manager, have remained unpaid, and Song Ji-hyo has been making on-site payments for her managers using her personal card. Song Ji-hyo terminated her contract with Uju Rocks in April and subsequently reported Mr. A, the CEO of the company, to Gangnam Police Station for embezzlement under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Economic Crimes.
Uju Rocks had been promising to pay the balance to Song Ji-hyo, but kept delaying the due date. They failed to deposit the money by the end of April, as they had promised. On May 2, Song Ji-hyo's party filed a lawsuit for non-payment of the balance, and Uju Rocks responded that they would pay by May 10. They then admitted that they were unable to keep their promise due to a delay in the deposit schedule, but stated that "we plan to sort everything out by June 30."
Uju Rocks announced on the 30th of last month, "We have successfully raised KRW 30 billion through an investment, and we plan to pay Song Ji-hyo the balance as early as next week." Uju Rocks was known to have successfully attracted an investment amounting to KRW 30 billion from an American financial institution recently, and it stated that it had started to pay the overdue balances to the employees and actors from the 3rd of last month, and that everything would be normalized by the 20th at the latest.
However, the 20th came without any payment of the overdue balances. Song Ji-hyo's legal representative told the media that morning, "We have not received the balance payment yet."
But that's not all. The employees who are still working for Uju Rocks are also facing non-payment of their salaries. According to a report by OSEN on the 20th, Uju Rocks' current employees are preparing to report CEO A. They are planning to take action if they do not receive their wages by the 24th, as promised.
A representative of Uju Rocks revealed to OSEN that, "The employees are also not receiving their salaries right now. If they do not receive their money by the 24th, they have agreed to expose CEO A."
This representative further claimed that "The employees can't stand the lies CEO A keeps telling. He said that the investment money is coming from America, but it seems like a lie. The source is uncertain. He keeps delaying it day by day by saying to wait in this situation where the source is not even certain. It seems like a trick to extend the period by saying that the investment has been completed. There's no exact source of the money. It seems like he used the media to delay until the 20th."
Continuing, they added, "The responsibility lies with CEO A. The current representatives listed are Woo OO and Jang OO, but if they get reported for non-payment of wages, they can face up to three years in prison or a fine of up to KRW 30 million. It seems that CEO A passed this onto them to avoid it, but in reality, CEO A is the one working. He asked us to wait until the 24th, so that day is the deadline. If not, I will stand with Song Ji-hyo and disclose internal materials."
