TWICE's First Subunit, MISAMO, Tops Music Charts in Japan with Debut Release
The first subunit of the group TWICE, MISAMO, has swept local music charts following their official debut in Japan.
On July 26, JYP Entertainment (JYP) will launch TWICE's first-ever subunit group, 'MISAMO', consisting of members Mina, Sana, and Momo. Ahead of their mini-album 'Masterpiece' official release, the title track 'Do not touch' and its music video were pre-released on July 14 at midnight.
As of 7 AM on the 15th, the track topped Japan's LINE Music Real-time Song Top 100 chart and the AWA Music Real-time chart. It also conquered the top spot in the iTunes Song Charts in ten regions, including Vietnam, Argentina, and Spain, based on cumulative totals until the morning of the 15th.
The music video, featuring the dazzling visuals of Mina, Sana, and Momo radiating elegant auras against stunning backgrounds and costumes, guides viewers into a highly refined artistic world. As of 5 PM on the day of its release, the music video was trending at No.1 in Japan and at No.2 in the U.S., Mexico, Canada, and Costa Rica on YouTube's trending music videos.
The online reaction to the first subunit presented by the globally renowned girl group TWICE, a combination many K-pop fans have long waited for, was also hot. Immediately following the release of the new song 'Do not touch' and its music video, the hashtag 'MISAMO_DoNotTouch' trended at No.1 in the Philippines, No.4 in the U.S. and Malaysia, No.7 in Vietnam, and No.9 in Brazil, attracting attention by making the top 5 worldwide.
They are set to appear on Japan's representative music program, 'Music Station' on the 21st, five days ahead of their official debut in Japan. 'Music Station', which first aired in October 1986, is one of the most popular music broadcasts in Japan.
As members of TWICE, who are enjoying peak popularity locally, Mina, Sana, and Momo, who have made numerous appearances on 'Music Station', will meet viewers for the first time as a subunit on the program. They will unveil a captivating performance showcasing their fantastic trio synergy, fueling their debut fever even hotter.
The title track of MISAMO's Japanese debut album, 'Do not touch', is an R&B genre song that highlights the inherent charm, color, and maturity of the three members. JYP's leading producer Park Jin-young personally wrote the lyrics, and the concept is based on the 'Do not touch' sign found in museums, expressing the members as art pieces. The song's highlight lyrics, "Yes you can watch me if if you love me But you can't touch me if if you love me", conveys the message that everyone is a noble being and should be treated preciously. The album includes a total of 7 songs, with all three members participating in writing the lyrics for the tracks.
MISAMO's debut album 'Masterpiece' will be released on July 26. To commemorate this, they will host 'MISAMO JAPAN SHOWCASE 2023' on July 22-23 at INTEX Osaka Exhibition Hall 5 in Osaka, Japan, and on July 25-27 at Pia Arena MM in Tokyo.
