BLACKPINK Makes History as First Global Artist to Surpass 90 Million Subscribers on YouTube
BLACKPINK has achieved a milestone, with their official YouTube channel reaching over 90 million subscribers. This is a first and most record for any artist worldwide.
According to YG Entertainment on July 17, BLACKPINK's YouTube channel surpassed 90 million subscribers at around 5:36 AM on the day. This feat comes roughly 7 years and 1 month after the BLACKPINK channel was launched on June 28, 2016.
Particularly, from October 2022, when they held a concert in Seoul, until last June, they gathered approximately 7 million subscribers, demonstrating the highest growth rate among K-pop artists during that period. This substantial influx of new fans can be attributed to their successful ongoing world tour and Jisoo's first solo activities.
In July 2020, BLACKPINK made their powerful presence felt by becoming the first non-English-speaking artist to be included in YouTube's 'Top 5 Most Subscribed Artists.' Since then, they have surpassed well-known pop stars like Ariana Grande, Eminem, Ed Sheeran, Marshmello, and Justin Bieber to stand tall as the world's No.1 artist.
Considering YouTube's leading role in driving changes in the global music market, this achievement has significant implications. Subscriber count is not just a measure of fleeting curiosity or one-time viewing of content, but a reflection of the consistent interest and anticipation of loyal fans. Despite establishing themselves as the world's top girl group, BLACKPINK's fandom continues to expand, which is a point worth noting.
Additionally, the cumulative views on BLACKPINK's official YouTube channel have exceeded 32.2 billion. There are 43 videos with hundreds of millions of views, including 'DDU-DU DDU-DU' music video, which is heading towards 2.1 billion views as the first K-pop group, along with 'Kill This Love' (1.8 billion views), 'BOOMBAYAH' (1.6 billion views), 'How You Like That' performance video (1.4 billion views), and 'As If It's Your Last' (1.3 billion views).
Meanwhile, BLACKPINK is currently on their largest-ever K-pop girl group world tour, 'BLACKPINK WORLD TOUR [BORN PINK],' which is attracting about 1.5 million fans. From August onwards, they will be extending their steps to American cities such as New Jersey, Las Vegas, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.
