BTS Suga and Jimin's Solo Albums Smash U.S. CD Sales in First Half of 2023
BTS members Suga and Jimin have made waves in the U.S. music market with their solo albums.
According to a report released by U.S. entertainment industry data research firm Luminate on July 12 (local time), the solo albums of BTS's Suga and Jimin have placed among the top sellers in the album sales category, marking an exceptional achievement for Korean solo artists.
In the 'Top CD Album Sales' category, which tallies the sales of physical CDs (single album-based), Suga's solo album 'D-DAY', released under his stage name Agust D, secured the 5th position, while Jimin's first solo album 'FACE' climbed to 7th. In the 'Top Albums (Total Sales)' category, which combines physical and digital sales, 'D-DAY' ranked 8th and 'FACE' positioned at 9th.
Luminate's first-half 2023 report is based on data analyzing music-related figures and trends such as physical album (CD, LP, etc.) sales, digital downloads, and audio streaming in the U.S. from December 30, 2022, to June 29, 2023.
'D-DAY', released on April 21, is Suga's personal work released approximately three years after his mixtape 'D-2', which was unveiled in May 2020. Suga, having taken on the roles of lyricist, composer, and producer for all tracks, led the planning, concept, and composition for 'D-DAY', thereby completing his Agust D trilogy series that began with his mixtape 'Agust D' in 2016 and 'D-2'.
Jimin's first solo album 'FACE', which was released on March 24, encapsulates the genuine emotions Jimin experienced over the past two years amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Echoing the album's title, which carries the double entendre of 'face' and 'to confront', Jimin unveiled various aspects of himself through this solo album.
