'Unresponsive and Outdated': IU's Fans Express Outrage Towards EDAM Entertainment
Fans of the singer IU (real name Lee Ji-eun) are furious about the inaction of her management company, EDAM Entertainment.
On the morning of the 28th, a group of IU's fans, identifying themselves as the "IU General Attack Team," organized a protest in front of Kakao Entertainment, EDAM Entertainment's parent company, using a truck-mounted electronic billboard.
The billboard read, "Avoiding responsibility with legal action, blocking the artist's way, Jong-Han Bae's work negligence, let her go now," and "A company without a phone or fax, corrupt and ghostly EDAM, that's unresponsive and outdated, Jong-Han Bae's work philosophy, no progress in legal proceedings, ignoring fans' work negligence, Jong-Han Bae and Jung-Hyun Park, let's break up now."
The fans argue that IU's agency has tarnished the artist's image due to its lackluster response to business matters. They have continually reported rumors surrounding IU and demanded strong legal action. However, the agency's passive response has led to accusations of plagiarism. This is not the first time the protestors have taken action, as they also held a similar protest in front of EDAM Entertainment in May for the same reason.
Some Chinese fandoms have also expressed dissatisfaction with EDAM Entertainment's management of IU and lack of communication with fans. They held truck protests demanding the opening of an official Weibo account, reduction of album mailing costs, and establishment of a communication channel between international fans and the agency.
IU has long been embroiled in accusations of plagiarism. On May 8, a person referred to as A reported IU to the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul for violating copyright laws. The songs under suspicion include 'Peach', 'Good Day', 'BBIBBI', 'Adorable', 'Boo', 'Celebrity' and a total of six songs. IU participated in composing 'Celebrity' and producing 'BBIBBI'.
In response, IU's team stated, "We are aware of the distribution of leaflets containing baseless rumors and plagiarism accusations based on false facts in some areas," and emphasized, "We will not stop taking strong action against indiscriminate third-party accusations and offenses based on false facts."
Due to this incident, the plagiarism suspicion of 'Peach' from ten years ago resurfaced. The song was criticized for its similarity to 'Here's Us' by the German band Nectar. Nectar and the publishing company, Northern Entertainment Publishing, recently released a lengthy statement and correction regarding the press reports about Nectar and IU through their official website. They claimed to have reached out to IU's team to discuss the issue but have not received a response.
IU's team refuted this, stating, "Nectar claimed once again through their website that from 2013, when the plagiarism suspicion was raised, to now, the artist, her then-agency LOEN Entertainment, and her current agency EDAM Entertainment did not respond to their multiple attempts at contact. This is not true."
