Hwasa's Controversial Performance Edited Out Following Outrage; Lee Hyo-ri's Reaction is One of Shock on 'Street Dance Singer'
The production team of tvN's variety show, 'Street Dance Singer,' decided to edit out Hwasa's 'rated-19 performance,' which had caused controversy.
On the episode of 'Street Dance Singer' aired on June 22nd, scenes of the members attending a university festival were featured.
In the month of May, which is known for university festival season, Kim Wan-sun, Lee Hyo-ri, and Hwasa decided to perform at Sungkyunkwan University, while Uhm Jung-hwa and BoA decided to perform at Korea University.
Lee Hyo-ri returned to the stage after 20 years with a performance of 'Hey Girl' alongside Leessang's Gary. Despite feeling embarrassed and calling herself a "woman living in the past," her still fantastic visuals and performance drew cheers from the crowd.
Following Kim Wan-sun, Hwasa took to the stage last and performed a medley of Mamamoo's songs solo. Known for frequently attending university festivals, Hwasa also took off her academic gown and tossed it into the audience as a fan service. Upon seeing this, Lee Hyo-ri exclaimed, "How does she manage to perform all of Mamamoo's parts by herself? Amazing."
The encore song Hwasa chose was 'Don't Give It To Me,' her duet with Loco. This song had previously sparked controversy for the suggestive performance, which involved Hwasa caressing a specific part of her body and mimicking a licking action with her fingers. After videos of her festival performance began to circulate, she received criticism for the adult-rated performance being inappropriate for a university festival.
In response to this, the production team only aired footage of Hwasa performing up to the point where she was about to do the controversial dance move. They substituted it with footage of Lee Hyo-ri and Kim Wan-sun reacting in surprise. Lee Hyo-ri expressed her surprise by exclaiming, "Oh my," while Kim Wan-sun admired the performance, saying, "Wow."
After Hwasa's performance, the singer PSY wrapped up the stage. His performances of 'Gentleman' and 'Entertainer' boosted the atmosphere at the venue. Members of 'Street Dance Singer' also took the stage and reveled in the festival atmosphere.
