Singer IU is facing embarrassment over plagiarism allegations surrounding her hit song 'Red Shoes' released in 2013. The record company that brought up the similarity in some parts of the melody stated, "We tried to contact them to discuss this issue, but there was no response." IU's representatives refuted these claims by publishing the reply email.

On the 22nd, Northernt Entertainment Publishing, the record company of the band Nekta, claimed on their website that, "So far, nobody from IU, LOEN Entertainment (her previous agency), or EDAM Entertainment (her current agency) has responded to our several attempts at contact."

Northernt did not directly claim that 'Red Shoes' infringed on Nekta's copyright. However, by mentioning 'copyright infringement issues related articles' in their statement, they indirectly drew attention to the suspicion of similarity with 'Red Shoes.' This is the first time Nekta has officially commented on the similarity issue.

'Red Shoes' was criticized for its similarity with Nekta's 'Here's Us' at the time of its release. LOEN, IU's agency at that time, said, "The two songs are completely different," and "The melodies might sound similar, but the chord progressions are totally different."

In response, IU's current agency, EDAM, refuted this claim by publishing an email exchanged between LOEN and Nekta in 2013 via their official SNS, stating, "Nekta's claims are not true."

The email sent on December 4, 2013, included the contents that, "There have been instances where permissions were not received from the copyright owner known as the legal representative of the foreign copyright owner. Please provide a certified copy of the power of attorney legally executed by Nekta members and Northernt" and also "We are reviewing the issue and will reply as soon as the review is completed."
