BLACKPINK Jennie's 'Racy' Performance on 'The Idol' Sparks Debate: Risqué Dance Moves and Revealing Attire Stir Controversy
BLACKPINK's Jennie has stunned fans with her daring outfits and choreography in her first leading role in HBO's 'The Idol.'
In the third episode of 'The Idol,' released on the 18th, Jennie's character, Dianne, stands in for Joslyn (played by Lily-Rose Depp) to perform at a music video center while Joslyn spends time with Ted Ross (The Weeknd).
In the scene, Jennie dons a revealing outfit that barely covers her chest and performs an intimate dance with a male dancer. The suggestive choreography, including the illusion of the male dancer's hand touching her in certain areas, has caused fans to voice their concerns.
Jennie was already swept up in a controversy over sexually suggestive dance moves in the first episode of 'The Idol,' where she performed a dance that implied intimate relations with male dancers. This time, with the addition of revealing clothing and even more sensational performances, criticisms are surfacing that the show is exploiting Jennie's image in a sexual manner. While some argue that such exposure and sexual expressions aren't problematic given that 'The Idol' is rated for mature audiences, the dominant opinion is that it's unclear why Jennie chose to participate in this drama.
In fact, Jennie's screen time in this episode was only about 30 seconds, during which the controversial dance scene took place. Although she participated in the drama in a special guest role and initially didn't have many scenes, there are complaints that her screen time is incredibly limited compared to the extent of the noise marketing reliant on Jennie's name and the exploitation of her image.
Every new episode of 'The Idol' continues to stir up controversy over its sexual content and harmfulness.
