Twice Shatters Records: First K-Pop Girl Group to Surpass 1 Million Album Sales in U.S.
Twice, the K-pop girl group sensation, has broken new ground by becoming the first of its kind to surpass one million album sales in the United States.
In a strategic move towards expanding their international presence, Twice collaborated with Republic Records, a subsidiary of Universal Music, in 2020. This collaboration recently led to the biggest and grandest fifth world tour in the band's history, "TWICE 5TH WORLD TOUR 'READY TO BE'".
Twice, which has been thriving on the global stage, added to their achievements by exceeding one million total physical and digital album sales in the U.S., a first for any K-pop girl group. This feat, indicative of their fandom's size, and their hot streak in album sales and performances, reconfirms their formidable influence and fandom power.
The mini-album "READY TO BE," released on March 10th, made a smashing debut on the 'Billboard 200', the main U.S. album chart, ranking second as of March 25th, and maintaining this position for nine consecutive weeks, marking their personal best. Furthermore, with "READY TO BE," Twice broke records again as the album's combined sales from physical and digital purchases and streams surpassed 153,000, setting a new highest sales record among K-pop girl groups.
Starting from June, Twice has been carrying on the heat of their fifth world tour in North America, with shows in Los Angeles, Oakland, Seattle, Dallas, Houston, Chicago, Toronto, New York, and Atlanta. Three years into their collaboration with Republic Records, Twice has garnered attention by selling out at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
SoFi Stadium, more than four times the size of the KIA Forum, where Twice held their first solo concert in the U.S. in 2019, signifies the exponential growth of Twice's popularity.
The band plans to continue its fifth world tour as part of its single concert series in September, hitting various global spots including Singapore, London, Paris, Berlin, Bangkok, and Bulacan in the Philippines. The Singapore concert, originally scheduled for just one performance on September 2nd, added another show due to rapid sellouts. The additional tickets were also quickly sold out, achieving another sold-out accomplishment.
