Stray Kids Smash K-Pop Records with Meteoric Rise: A New Chapter in Music History
K-Pop sensation, Stray Kids, has ascended to a historic position, securing the top spot in K-Pop's first-week sales ranking with an unmatched momentum.
Stray Kids made a triumphant comeback with the release of their third full-length album, "5-STAR," and its lead single, "Teuk," on June 2nd. As of June 1st, the album had surpassed 5.13 million pre-orders, setting a record for the "highest-ever pre-orders in K-Pop history." This indicated the birth of a new record-holder in initial sales (album sales within the first week of release).
By the seventh day of its official release, June 8th, Stray Kids' third album had closed initial sales with 4,617,499 copies, as per Hanteo Chart. This unprecedented figure etched Stray Kids' name into K-Pop history, cementing their place at the apex of the music scene. Their sales soared to 2,392,666 copies on the second day of release, earning them the double-million-seller artist title in just one day, and by June 8th, they had more than doubled their previous record set by their October 2022 mini-album, "MAXIDENT," demonstrating their phenomenal momentum.
Following their first million-seller album, "NOEASY," in 2021, March 2022's "ODDINARY" achieved consecutive million-seller status, and October's "MAXIDENT" earned both double and triple million-seller titles. Now, just eight months later, Stray Kids have gained a new moniker as a quadruple million-seller and have their sights set on becoming a pentamillion-seller. Particularly, as the only group to secure consecutive No.1 spots on the Billboard 200 with two mini albums released in 2022, Stray Kids are in the global spotlight for breaking and creating records with their new full-length album.
International media outlets are also paying close attention to their extraordinary new album. On June 5th, the UK's NME praised, "Stray Kids' third full-length album effortlessly demonstrates the group's balance between maintaining their unique style and the power that has propelled them to the top. Once you get a taste of the 'frenzied heat' of '5-STAR,' it's impossible to break free," awarding the album a perfect five-star rating.
Furthermore, the band's new hit single, "Teuk," with its captivating performance, powerful live vocals, and stunning visuals, is adding fuel to their popularity. The performance, which freely transitions from military moves to the relaxed vibe of old school hip-hop, is enthralling viewers. Stray Kids took home first place trophies from MBC M's "Show! Champion," Mnet's "M Countdown," and KBS 2TV's "Music Bank," relishing the joy of a triple crown. The music video for "Teuk" has already surpassed 45.64 million views on YouTube as of June 10th morning, smoothly sailing towards 50 million views.
Meanwhile, Stray Kids are set to hold their third solo fan meeting, "Stray Kids 3RD FANMEETING 'PILOT: FOR 5-STAR," on July 1st and 2nd at Seoul's KSPO DOME. Tickets were quickly sold out following the fan club pre-sale, and even the additional seats were immediately sold out. On the last day of the event, July 2nd, they plan to interact with fans around the world through an online live broadcast on the Beyond LIVE platform.
