G-Dragon, the leader of BIGBANG, was notably missing from YG Entertainment's quarterly report. Is this a sign of a parting of ways between G-Dragon and YG Entertainment?

According to the YG's quarterly report for March 2023 released on May 15th through the Electronic Disclosure System, BIGBANG was not included in the list of YG's primary contracts and research and development activities.

The list, divided into the singers and actors categories, included BLACKPINK, AKMU, WINNER, SECHSKIES, Jinusean, and TREASURE, but neither BIGBANG nor G-Dragon's real name, Kwon Ji-yong, were listed.

Previously, in the September 2022 list, BIGBANG was included and G-Dragon was listed by his real name, Kwon Ji-yong, in the December 2022 list. Based on these facts, speculations are rife about the end of G-Dragon's future contract with YG Entertainment.

Interestingly, iKON was included in the September 2022 list but was missing from the December 2022 list, and around the same time, YG officially terminated the contract with iKON, fueling curiosity about G-Dragon's case.

G-Dragon had announced earlier this year that he would be actively working. In a rare appearance on YG's YouTube channel, G-Dragon himself stated, "I plan to come back with various activities, including preparing for an album this year."

BIGBANG, which debuted on August 19, 2006, is celebrating its 18th anniversary this year. However, member Seungri officially withdrew in 2020 due to the Burning Sun scandal, and Daesung left YG to move to R&D Company. Taeyang has established a new nest at The Black Label, a subsidiary label of YG, and has resumed his solo activities, while T.O.P recently mentioned his departure from BIGBANG via his Instagram. At this point, G-Dragon is the only remaining member of BIGBANG in YG.

According to Star News, more time is needed before a conclusion can be reached regarding G-Dragon and YG's contract. In December 2022, YG stated they were "discussing future activities, including contracts with the remaining members (except Taeyang)." Neither YG nor G-Dragon have made official announcements about this issue, but it seems that there is an implicit agreement that they will continue to work together, even if a new contract has not been confirmed or documented. In other words, it means that not only is the parting of G-Dragon and YG not official, it is not happening at all (at least not in the immediate future).

In response to this issue, YG stated again on the 6th, "The exclusive contract with G-Dragon has expired, and we are cooperating through separate contracts for advertising and other activities. We plan to negotiate an additional contract when he resumes his music activities, and YG will spare no support for this."
