TAEYEON: K-pop Legend Resurfaces after 3-Year Hiatus with Spellbinding Concert
"I'm so grateful for your patience over the past 3 years. I've missed you."
Girls' Generation's Taeyeon made a triumphant return with a solo concert after a 3 year and 5 month hiatus. Now in her 17th year since debut, her versatile performance once again confirmed her status as one of the leading female solo artists in K-pop. Her presence shone brightly in this much-anticipated concert.
On the 4th of May, Taeyeon held the second day of her fifth solo concert, 'The Odd Of Love,' at the KSPO DOME in Seoul Olympic Park, Songpa-gu, Seoul.
This two-day concert, which started on the 3rd, was Taeyeon's first solo concert in approximately 3 years and 5 months since 'The Unseen' in January 2020. It had gathered high expectations right from its announcement.
In particular, Taeyeon's ticket power was proven as she managed to sell out every seat, including limited-view seats, amidst explosive reactions from fans. At this concert, Taeyeon drew a crowd of 9,000 attendees per day, totaling over 18,000 spectators over two days.
#"It feels like my throat's tearing, but it's so exciting... this must be why I perform."
The dazzling performance commenced with the title track 'INVU' from her third studio album. Taeyeon followed up with 'Can't Control Myself,' 'Such A Night,' 'Set Myself On Fire,' 'Siren,' and 'Cold As Hell,' creating a compelling opening stage.
At the concert held after 3 years and 5 months, fans filled the venue with fervent cheers as if quenching their longing. Taeyeon reciprocated the fans' enthusiasm by displaying her powerful vocal prowess and captivating performance. The band session that accompanied her throughout the concert added an intense live sound, completing a well-crafted performance.
After the continuous opening stage, Taeyeon stood before her fans with a bright smile. She made eye contact with her fans who came to the concert venue, expressing, "It's been so long. The atmosphere is already heated."
She went on to convey her gratitude towards her fans, saying, "I was so flustered about what to say first because it's been so long since I performed. Last year, we filled the gymnastics stadium for a Girls' Generation fan meeting, and today I filled the same stadium on my own. All thanks to you. I'm so thankful for all of you who've come from afar."
Following this, Taeyeon presented a stage filled with strong high notes and stable singing skills through 'Weekend,' 'No Love Again,' 'You Better Not,' and 'Stress.' "It feels like my throat's going to tear, but I'm so excited. This must be why I perform," she said, drawing cheers from the audience.
#"How far can I go in terms of performance?"
Taeyeon, who will officially kick off her Asia tour following this concert, heightened expectations by saying, "I think I performed three times at the last concert, but this time it's two shows. So today is the last concert in Seoul. It's going to continue with an Asia tour, so we'll be performing in the countries that have been announced so far. Please look forward to the countries that will be announced in the future."
Furthermore, Taeyeon received enthusiastic support from her fans when she revealed, "Honestly, I was wondering, 'Can I do this?' Even during band practice, I was thinking, 'This setlist is formidable,' and I kept chanting 'I can do it.' I'm also curious about how I'll perform in the future. I'm very curious about how far I can go."
In support of Taeyeon's long-awaited solo concert, fellow artists from SM Entertainment also visited the concert venue. She announced, "I don't really have many friends, but a few acquaintances came today to support me. If I may say one thing, the members came," drawing everyone's attention. Indeed, Girls' Generation members Sooyoung, Yoona, Hyoyeon, and Tiffany attended the concert, showing their strong bond.
The final song of the main concert was 'Time Spent Drawing You.' Standing before the last stage, Taeyeon expressed, "I had moments where I thought, 'Is this a bit hard?' while preparing, but today, I feel like I gained so much strength, so thank you. I don't know how I lived without performing for 3 years. I'm so grateful to all of you who waited for this concert for so long."
