Making History: K-pop Group aespa Dazzles at Cannes Film Festival Red Carpet, A First for the K-Pop Industry
South Korean girl group aespa, under SM Entertainment, made history by attending the Cannes Film Festival, becoming the first K-pop group ever to do so.
On May 24th, local time, aespa graced the red carpet event held before the official screening of the competitive film 'Le Port-AU-FEU' at the 76th Cannes Film Festival at the Palais des Festivals, Cannes, France.
Significantly, aespa made their appearance on the red carpet as ambassadors of Chopard, an official partner of the Cannes Film Festival. They were personally invited by Chopard's co-president and art director, Caroline Scheufele. aespa's attendance at the festival, a first for a K-pop group since its inception, underscored their global influence.
Sporting distinct black and white evening dresses, the aespa members wore pieces from Chopard's high jewelry collection, displaying an elegant attitude fitting for the esteemed film festival. Their captivating charm didn't go unnoticed, as they caught the flashes of numerous journalists' cameras.
Fans from all over the world gathered at the event site to see aespa, cheering and calling out the members' names. In response, aespa smiled and waved to their fans as they ascended the red carpet stairs, drawing the attention of local officials.
Prior to the red carpet event, aespa attended a fashion show, art event dinner, and party hosted by Chopard on the 23rd. aespa made a comeback with their third mini-album "MY WORLD" on the 8th, achieving their highest pre-order sales record. They set several records including highest first-day and initial sales for a K-pop girl group, achieving double-million-seller status in album sales within two weeks, topping major album and music charts, and claiming four music show wins, marking a new 'career high' in their journey.
