WINNER's Kang Seung-yoon to Begin Military Service on June 20
WINNER's Kang Seung-yoon (29) is set to enlist in the military.
According to a report by SportTV News on May 24, Kang Seung-yoon is scheduled to join the military on June 20. He will undergo basic military training at a recruit training center, after which he will fulfill his defense duties as an active-duty soldier.
Kang Seung-yoon serves as the leader and youngest member of WINNER. He will be the last member of the team to join the military, following Kim Jin-woo and Lee Seung-hoon, who have already completed their military service, and Song Min-ho, who is currently fulfilling his alternative service.
With Kang Seung-yoon's enlistment, WINNER continues their hiatus, often referred to as a "military blank period." Last year, upon the release of 'Holiday', Kang Seung-yoon emphasized the positive meaning of this period by stating that it marked the "starting point for the second act of WINNER." He said, "If the four of us walked together in the first act, now we have four different paths. I imagine a time when these four paths come together again, broadening our horizons."
Kang Seung-yoon emerged as one of the top 4 contestants from Mnet's 'Superstar K2'. In 2011, he appeared in 'High Kick: Revenge of the Short Legged'. He then made his solo debut as a singer in 2013 with 'It Rains', and officially debuted as a member of WINNER the following year, releasing their first full-length album '2014 S/S' through the survival show 'WIN: Who is Next?'.
In addition to his remarkable vocal prowess, ranging from intense to refreshing, he has been recognized for his excellent musical abilities as a producer, writing and composing numerous hit songs for WINNER, such as 'Really Really', 'Island', 'Everyday', 'Love Me Love Me', 'Millions', 'Ah Yeah', and 'Soso'.
He has also been active as an actor, appearing in a variety of works such as 'Wise Prison Life', 'Kairos', 'Voice Season 4', and 'Drama Special - The Season of Pansies'. Recently, he is participating as a judge in MBC's 'Teen Fantasy - Afterschool Embarrassment Season 2'.
