Blackpink Shatters Records, Surpasses $100M in Ticket Sales with 'Born Pink' Tour
Trailblazing South Korean K-pop group Blackpink has accomplished an unprecedented feat in their career: they are the first-ever girl band to exceed $100 million in ticket sales with their "Born Pink" world tour.
Consisting of Jennie, Lisa, Rose, and Jisoo, the quartet set the stage ablaze with their world tour, launched in October last year with a dual-show at the KSPO Dome in Seoul, South Korea. The tour subsequently traveled across cities in the U.S., Europe, Asia, and Australia.
With millions of attendees globally, the "Born Pink" tour has established itself as the most lucrative concert tour by a female group ever. Notably, this record-breaking achievement precedes the remaining 29 scheduled tour dates, as reported by AllKpop.
Blackpink made a significant impact during their U.S. leg, particularly during their two-night performance at Newark, New Jersey's Prudential Center. They generated more than $3 million per night, a new record for a female group in a single arena.
The sensational girl group is set to continue its tour across several Australian stadiums in June, including Melbourne's Rod Laver Arena and Sydney's Qudos Bank Arena. The remainder of the 2023 tour schedule has yet to be disclosed.
Speculations about the future of the group are swirling as Blackpink's contract with YG Entertainment nears its end in the third quarter of this year. Earlier rumors suggested that the quartet received lucrative offers from other entertainment companies that YG Entertainment might struggle to match. Lisa, in particular, was reportedly offered KRW 100 billion ($74.6 million) to switch labels after her successful solo debut, "Lalisa," in 2021.
However, as per an exclusive report from local outlet Starnews, it seems all four members have opted to remain with YG Entertainment and renew their individual contracts. While no specific reasons were given, it's speculated that the overwhelming success and reception of their ongoing "Born Pink" tour played a role in their decision.
Since their debut in 2016, Blackpink has been steadily breaking Guinness World Record titles, filling stadiums across the globe, and consistently achieving chart-topping hits. Known for their popular tracks such as "Shut Down," "Lovesick Girls," "How You Like That," "Typa Girl," and "Boombayah," among others, the group continues to redefine the K-pop landscape.
