Park Myung-Soo Defends IU Against Plagiarism Accusations: 'What Has She Done Wrong?'
Broadcaster Park Myung-Soo has revealed his firm stance in defense of singer and actress IU, amid accusations of plagiarism.
Park Myung-Soo discussed the issue surrounding IU with data specialist Jeon Min-Ki on the KBS Cool FM radio show "Park Myung-Soo's Radio Show" aired on May 19.
During the broadcast, Jeon Min-Ki revealed, "IU is currently facing plagiarism accusations."
He added, "The person who filed the plagiarism accusation is not a related party, but a regular citizen. For copyright infringement, the original copyright holder must file the complaint for it to proceed. Furthermore, the actual complaint should have been filed against the composer, not IU. However, because it was filed against IU, it has become an issue." He also pointed out that a public sentiment of 'What did IU do wrong?' is being formed, indicating that the complaint was heading in the wrong direction.
Upon hearing Jeon Min-Ki's explanation, Park Myung-Soo responded, "It's not like IU ordered it, what did she do wrong?"
He further added, "Many singers including IU are promoting our country by creating K-pop culture. We need to support them."
Moreover, he refuted, "These days, no one can dare plagiarize. No creator can plagiarize blatantly, and if there's a problem with a song, the fans know it better. It's not a world where you can just get by easily."
Previously, on the 8th, a civilian referred to as A filed a complaint against IU at the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul for violating the Copyright Act. The songs under scrutiny, all performed by IU, include "Good Day," "Pink Shoes," "BBIBBI," "Pitiful," "Boo," and "Celebrity," totaling six songs.
In response to the spreading suspicions of plagiarism against IU, composers Lee Min-Soo who composed "Good Day" and "Pink Shoes," and Lee Jong-Hoon who composed "BBIBBI," personally refuted the claims, asserting that "None of the songs have been plagiarized."
