BTS's Jimin Achieves Million and Platinum Double Certification on Circle Chart
BTS's Jimin continues to shine as 'World No.1' with his record-breaking streak for his 'Face' album.
Jimin's solo album, 'Face,' broke through one million cumulative sales on the Circle Chart (previously Gaon Chart), operated by the Korea Music Content Association (KMCA), earning him a million certification on May 11.
Jimin's 'Face' also broke through 250,000 sales for the 'Face (Weverse)' platform album, accessible via a QR code format on the Weverse platform, gaining him platinum certification. Thus, Jimin's solo debut has astonishingly earned both million and platinum certifications simultaneously.
Being the first-ever solo artist to sell one million copies on the first day of release, Jimin, with 1,454,223 copies, topped the first-week sales record for a solo artist, and as of May 16, he holds the highest sales record for a solo artist in 2023 with 1,613,941 sales on the Circle Chart.
'Face' is Jimin's first solo album in over a decade since his debut, and it led a global success, drawing explosive reactions from fans worldwide even before its release, as they have eagerly anticipated it.
Following the No.1 position on the US Billboard main singles chart 'Hot 100,' it also debuted at the highest position (2nd) for a Korean solo artist on the main album chart 'Billboard 200'. As of May 13, it marked a remarkable achievement by ranking 3rd overall and 1st among solos in the 2023 US K-pop album pure best-selling ranking.
In particular, the title track 'Like Crazy' achieved gold certification eligibility from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) with 500,000 unit sales. Jimin, thus, became the first and only Korean solo artist to earn four gold certifications, including 'Lie', 'Filter', and 'Serendipity FLE', proving his popularity, coined as 'Jimin-merica' (JIMIN + America).
This popularity surge continues in Japan as well, where the 'Face' album marked over 250,000 cumulative shipments, earning a platinum certification from the Record Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ). This is the first and greatest success for a K-pop solo artist with a Korean album, setting a unique record for a Korean solo artist in 2023.
Despite his global fame, Jimin added a sincere touch to 'Face,' filling it with only his voice, without collaborations, highlighting his intent to move forward as an artist. This decision, coupled with his dazzling achievements as a solo artist representing K-pop, continues to enhance his global stature.
