EXO's Kai surprised fans with a special event to create lasting memories before his sudden military enlistment.

On May 3, SM Entertainment announced, "Kai was preparing for EXO's scheduled comeback this year, but due to recent changes in military regulations, he will enter the army training center on May 11th. After basic military training, he will serve as a social service agent."

Kai has been actively communicating with fans and preparing for EXO's full-member comeback. EXO members held a fan meeting on April 8th after four years and revealed their plans for a comeback within the year.

Fans were shocked by the sudden news of Kai's enlistment. On May 3, Kai went live and said, "I had a lot prepared, but it's a shame. There was no other choice," revealing that he only found out about the enlistment date on the same day.

With Kai's enlistment, full-member activities have become impossible. He assured fans, "I have a lot prepared, but it's a shame I couldn't show it. I'll show it after I return. Kai isn't going anywhere. Once I'm back, we won't be apart."

To console fans, Kai organized a free fan meeting. On May 9th, he held the fan meeting "KAI's [aKAIve]," which was livestreamed on EXO's official YouTube channel.

During the event, Kai performed solo songs like "Mmmh," "Peaches," and "Lover." He also interacted with fans through various segments. To fill the void for fans during his enlistment, he prepared special photocard gifts.

Kai also checked must-do lists written by fans for themselves and for him. He selected 10 fans and gifted them cosmetic sets from Yves Saint Laurent Beauty, where he serves as an ambassador.

He also mentioned the concert that was initially planned for August. "We were working hard on preparing for EXO's comeback, but it's a shame. That's why I cried during the live broadcast." Kai assured fans, "I'll make up for the passion and effort by giving a smashing concert after I return."

After the enlistment news, Kai shared updates on his daily life. "I've been eating three meals a day. I've been finishing my dinners with chicken, and I've gained 1 kg."

In his closing remarks, Kai said, "Please wait for me while I study and practice hard during the slightly more than a year I'll be away fulfilling my military duties."

Additionally, a surprise video message from EXO's leader Suho was revealed. In the video, Suho said, "I hope the time Kai spends in the military will be valuable, and I hope he can let go of something and have a good time." He added, "EXO without you will feel empty. I love you," sharing a heartwarming message.
