aespa's Refreshing Transformation: From Warrior Queens to High-Teen Girls
The group aespa has made their comeback after about 10 months with their third mini-album, "MY WORLD". Known for their intense and powerful songs, this time aespa has transformed into refreshing high-teen girls perfect for the summer.
"MY WORLD" was released on various music sites on the 8th. The album surpassed 1.8 million pre-orders, breaking the record of their previous album, "Girls" (1.61 million pre-orders). aespa has been weaving a unique story based on the virtual world called "KWANGYA" and the real world. After defeating the villain Black Mamba in the virtual world, aespa has returned to the real world, opening up season 2 of their universe.
The title track, "Spicy", captures the free-spirited charm of aespa returning to the real world. Previously, they were known for their powerful performances and warrior-like image. This time, the lively and playful side of the girls spending time with friends is emphasized. At a press conference held in Seoul, Karina explained, "We've mostly been active in KWANGYA and showed a warrior-like image as we fought Black Mamba, but this time we've come to the real world and embraced a high-teen vibe suitable for our age. We tried to give off a more youthful and free-spirited feeling by dressing as if we're on a campus."
As they've made a comeback after a long time, the members showed strong determination for their new song promotions. Ningning said, "I think aespa is a group with a dual nature. This is the first time we've done a more mainstream song, and we want to try various songs in the future." Winter added, "I'm glad that we're doing an upbeat song after having done darker and deeper songs."
The pre-release track, "Welcome To MY World", features Naivys, a collaborator in aespa's universe, raising fans' expectations. Additionally, the album includes dance track "Salty & Sweet", pop song "I'm Unhappy", and ballad "Till We Meet Again", offering a variety of genres to explore. aespa is also planning to hold a solo concert at the Tokyo Dome in August.
