BTS Jin's 'The Astronaut' Breaks K-Pop Record with 13 Million Shazams
BTS member Jin has showcased his prominence as a top solo artist by setting new records in K-Pop history on the world's largest music search platform, Shazam.
Jin's first solo single 'The Astronaut' surpassed 13 million Shazams on May 6th, becoming the first K-Pop track ever to achieve this milestone. The song dethroned Jin's previous solo OST 'Yours', making him the holder of both first and second place for the most Shazamed K-Pop songs.
He is the only K-Pop artist with two tracks that have garnered over 12 million Shazams, proving his strong presence in the industry.
'The Astronaut' has continuously broken records since its release, including reaching 100,000 Shazams in the shortest time for a 2022 K-Pop release, becoming the first 2022 K-Pop release to hit 1 million Shazams, and being the first and most-shazamed 2022 K-Pop song to surpass 2 million Shazams.
The World Music Awards (WMA) congratulated Jin on his achievement, stating that 'The Astronaut' became "the most Shazamed K-Pop song ever, with 13 million Shazams." WMA also revealed that Jin's 'The Astronaut' ranks first, followed by 'Yours' and BTS's 'Dynamite' in the list of all-time most Shazamed K-Pop songs, solidifying Jin's title as the 'Shazam King.'
Jin topped the Shazam 'Global Weekly Top 10 Artists' chart for the 21st time on May 5th, setting a new record for the most weeks at #1 and becoming the only solo K-Pop artist to achieve this feat.
In 2023, Jin also claimed the top spot on the 'Global Weekly Top 10 Artists' chart eight times out of 13, setting a new record for the longest streak in 2023.
With a total of 40 appearances on the chart, Jin has ranked in the top 3 for 39 of those weeks, becoming the first and longest-charting K-Pop artist. The only K-Pop artists to have ever claimed the #1 spot on the 'Global Weekly Top 10 Artists' chart are Jin and his group, BTS.
'The Astronaut' has also topped the Shazam 'Global TOP 200' chart 99 times, making it the second-longest-charting K-Pop song, with Jin's 'Yours' holding the record at 102 times. This achievement solidifies Jin's global influence as the only artist to hold both first and second place for the longest-charting K-Pop songs on the 'Global TOP 200.'
The song has also topped the charts in Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and the Philippines, and ranked in various countries like Thailand, Mexico, and Costa Rica, demonstrating its global power.
In the 'Global TOP 200' K-Pop category, 'The Astronaut' has remained at #1 for 188 consecutive days, while Jin's 'Yours' has held the top spot for a total of 504 times in the 'Film, TV & Stage' category, continuing its long-running record.
With the release of 'Yours' and 'The Astronaut', Jin has proven his unwavering popularity as a top solo artist by setting numerous records.
